The receptionist closed the window and whistled. "We're going to have to make up a form for the Chet Kidd at the frat, those two make ten so far this week." She nodding toward the two Lees disappearing down the corridor. She added, "And at least 4 of the other apps today also indicate they got the ad from him. I haven't checked all of them yet."
"Well, Spec Ops has prepared a scenario using Chet to cover our tracks. The fact that so many of our subjects had contact with Chet and the Frat is even better. After all, when people start noticing how many are missing, they'll want a scape goat. Did the same thing with that Bill Gacy down in Chicagoland a few years back."
"The serial killer. I thought he confessed, and all the remains under his house? That was one of our projects?"
"No, Spec Ops cleaned it up though, and Gacy did kill a number of the victims, we just concealed a few of our test subjects among his real ones. Only six then. Hide trees in a forest, you know. It was Gerhard's folly, I thought you knew."
"Oh, I knew about Gerhard, didn't know about how it was covered up. There are a lot more than six who'll go missing in this size project," she nodded at the six foot high shelf containing about 450 charts.
"Well, yes. But an acceptable percentage. Most will get their checks and provide minor scientific contributions, and go about their happy lives. The more extreme experiments we reserve for Frat Boy's victims. Though at this rate, I better tell Ops to make it a cult, and take out the entire Frat. Through the mirrored window, I can see a dozen more young people are coming in off the College Line Bus, more of his recruits, I wager."
"Definitely, a cult. Ala Manson."
"So, what about this Chris Matthews kid?"
"Well, based on his answers on the application, and the data I downloaded from his medical records...I'd say he'd do nicely for Experiment 6432 or for 884. Who needs the most subjects?"
She looked through the glass, "It's a toss up, for the numbers. But I can imagine him looking more natural with a fish tail and scales than hooves."
She opened the glass, "Chris Matthews!" And put an aqua colored sticker on his chart.
