VexCo Nuclear Technologies is the new American leader in nuclear energy. However,
in 2020, their plant in Foresttown, Kentucky experienced a small leak. As they were
cleaning up the spillage, one of the workers got exposed to the waste and was
instantly transformed into an anthromorphic dog. He was immediately taken for testing
where it was found the the type of nuclear waste made in that particular factory had
mixed with a rare element found in the surrounding land. When a person was to touch
the mixture, they became an anthromorphic version of the animal that most
represented them. More tests were done and it was found that if animals touched the
waste, they would become anthromorphic versions of themselves capable of speech
and rational thought. Before long, many rich people and other investors were giving
huge amounts of money towards the research. By the year 2040, research was
complete. There were no harmful side effects to touching or injesting the mixture and it
was discovered that inhaling a ballon full of helium would reverse the changes. It was
also discovered that if two anthros bred, their children would be born as an anthro
hybrid of whatever their parents were. However, if these children drank the mixture, it
would transform them into whatever form they desired.
By 2045, the FDA approved VexCo's request to market the mixture and it was soon
stocking the shelves. Everyone who had ever wanted to be an anthro could now do so
at a small cost. The waste was otherwise useless to VexCo, so the product was
extremely cheap. It is now 2060. The world is now more than 60% anthros. Most of
these anthros were former pets that were given the mixture. As with any other race,
there are many prejudices against "furries". The Anthro Rights Organization (ARO)
was formed in 2049 and continue to represent anthros everywhere. The first anthro
president was elected in 2058 and the United States is now the only "free anthro"
society. Other countries are not as accepting of anthros.
However, there was one thing the mixture did that VexCo didn't know about. It only
happened to an astronomically small percentage of people who took the mixture. If a
person who drank the mixture had a certain gene mutation, the mixture mutated this
gene further and not only made them an anthro, but gave them a superpower. This
mutation is physically undetectable; and because so few people have it (approx. 1 in
10,000,000) there are no DNA tests administered for it.
This story will follow the life of someone who, whether they themselves drank the
mixture or not, are affected by the product in some way. Perhaps they drank the
potion. Perhaps one of their friends or family did. Maybe they gained powers from it.
Maybe someone they know did. Or maybe someone who gained powers takes
advantage of them. Whatever the case, VexCo's revolutionary product is sure to cause
some excitement.
