Ty had so much fun watching those kids play dodge ball on the tennis court, that he wanted to walk around some more and see who else he could change using his new powers. His shoes were now extremely tight, so he just wished for his tennis shoes to transform into a pair of sandals for the time being. In the meantime, he just wandered past the soccer field where he saw that Jake was still playing his game, but they were in the second half so they still had about fifteen minutes left in the game.
“I definitely need to go to the mall to check out some new shoes, bigger clothes, and that video game with Jake. Hmm… Let’s check out the basketball court while I wait for Jake’s match to wrap up!” Ty thought to himself.
When Ty walked over to the basketball court, he spotted about nine boys playing a quick pickup-game, with one boy rotating out of the game for one of the teams, while one boy was sitting on the aluminum bench on the side of the court. Ty walked over to the bench and sat down, just to watch the game in progress. When he turned to face the boy, he saw that the kid was wearing a jersey, shorts and high tops. He was all dressed up and ready to play basketball, but he was still sitting on the bench, even though there was an odd number of players on the court. Ty thought that was very strange. To make things even stranger was the fact that the boy had a very sad expression on his face. Half the time, he wasn’t even watching the game, for he was just staring at the concrete floor. He didn’t seem the least bit interested in the game at all. Right away, Ty saw that there was something wrong.
“Hey…” Ty said to the boy, as he slowly moved closer to him.
“Hi…”
“You know… These guys could probably use another player since they’re playing four against five, you know?” Ty said to him.
The boy just looked down without even looking Ty in the face.
“They don’t want me…”
“Why not? You look like the type of guy who knows how to play basketball!” Ty replied.
The boy who looked like he was maybe thirteen years old, stood up and walked over to where Ty was sitting. Ty then stood up, and noticed that he was at least five inches taller than him. And Ty was standing about 5 foot 7 inches tall by now.
“How older are you?” the boy asked Ty.
“I’m fifteen. Today’s my birthday. I just turned fifteen today!” Ty responded.
The boy looked up to Ty with certain sadness in his face.
“Congratulations and happy birthday, big guy! My name is Adam. I’m a year older than you, and I’m only 5 foot 2 inches tall! Nobody wants me on their basketball team because I’m too short!” the boy said calmly.
Ty’s mouth dropped wide open.
“You’re… You’re 16 and you’re only 5 foot 2? Oh man…”
“Yeah… Those guys don’t want a midget on their basketball team… Even though I know how to play!” Adam explained. “But since these guys are all close to six feet tall and I’m only 5-2, I don’t stand a chance!”
Ty felt sorry for the boy, as he looked down on him. The poor kid couldn’t help it that he was so short. But Ty felt like he could help him out using his powers.
“Well, Adam, I wish you would grow a foot taller right now…” Ty said calmly.
“Thanks, dude… but wishing doesn’t make things happen… WHOA!” Adam gasped, as he felt a tingling in his legs and arms.
Then, Adam’s legs started to grow longer, and so do his arms! Very quickly, but gradually, Adam’s legs began to elongate at a steady pace, making the boy stand taller and taller. It was as if his legs began to stretch out like they were made of rubber. His arms also grew longer at the same rate as his legs, just to stay in proportion with the rest of his body. Adam then grew exactly 12 inches taller, most of that extra length all being added to his limbs, by the time the growth spurt ended. When Adam stopped growing, he was now looking down on Ty, and Ty had to gradually look up to the growing basketball player, who quietly passed him by in height following his magical wish!
“There! Now you’re tall enough to play basketball!” Ty grinned.
“Whoa! What… How… How did you do that? What did you do to me?” Adam wondered.
“Don’t worry, dude!” Ty explained. “I wish you to have awesome basketball skills and to see it as perfectly normal that you’re as tall as you are right now!”
Adam blinked for a moment, then he looked around with a confused look on his face.
“Hey, Adam! Are you playing or not?” one of the boys shouted. “Get over here! We need you on the court, dude!”
“I’m coming!” Adam shouted, as he turned around and started playing basketball with the other nine boys.
Ty couldn’t help but smile. He had changed another life, by growing this boy a foot taller. Ty watched a little bit of the game before he turned around and walked back to the soccer field. Along the way, he passed the tennis courts, the baseball field, and two other soccer fields before he reached the field where Jake was playing.
He wanted to use his powers, but he also wanted to get together with Jake and have some more fun with him. After all, this was his best friend. They also needed to go to the mall and get that video game and pick up some clothes and some new shoes. Plus, Ty still wanted to reward Jake for his generosity. Jake could certainly use some more muscle, and Ty wasn’t done growing him yet.
