The light is switched on and everything becomes so bright that you
have to close your eyes. You're picked up by two hands, reminding
you of how tiny you are. "Shhh, darling, it's okay, I'm here", your
mother says in a soothing voice that sounds quite different then
when she talked right after birth. "Let's get you into a nice clean
diaper and then Mommy's going to give you some milk, how do you
like that?" Hearing her voice and being held close to her body
comforts you so much that you stop crying. You open your eyes
while she carries you around, but can't really see where you're
going.
She lies you down on your back, undresses you and takes off your
diaper. She wipes your pee away and blows a raspberry on your
tummy. It feels really funny and you'd certainly laugh if you were
physically able to. She puts a new diaper and clothes on you and
carries you to another room. "Now lets see what your Mommy's
been up to. Hey, Jenny, I think someone's hungry." You're handed
over to another woman lying on a bed. "Thanks, mom." You
recognize the voice from right after your birth, realizing that
apparently the woman who diapered you is your grandmother.
Mommy puts you onto the bed right next to her, with your legs
touching her tummy and her arm around you holding you safely. Her
big round breast is right in front of you, and she tickles your face
with the nipple. Greedily you put your mouth around it and start to
suck. "Is she latched on properly, mom?" she asks your
grandmother. "Yes, you're doing great. I don't think I could have
been such a good mother at 16." Your Mommy laughs, "That's
because you do all the hard stuff." "Maybe now, but by next month
you'll be doing it all on your own. Also the hardest thing is up to
you. Have you decided on a name yet?" "Yeah, I think I'm going to
call her Salene." "Salene? That's a rare name, but nice." "That's
what I thought."
Your mother moves her head really close to yours and lovingly
whispers into your ear: "Did you hear that, Salene? You've got a
name now." The name will take getting used to, but so will other
things in your new life. Loved and protected by two great women
fulfilling your every wish, you're sure growing up as Salene will be
great, even if you don't seem to have a father, and Mommy is a bit
younger than usual. Her milk makes you sleepy, and once again
you doze off at her breast.
