Kendra pulled her legs up to her chest and looked back and forth slowly from her dad to her mom, waiting for one of them to speak.
April at last walked slowly from the door tothe couch. When Kendra's father said nothing, she sat next to Kendra for support.
Kendra's father steemed stunned, having trouble deciding what to say. Then the state of shock her mother had been in finally wore off and she spoke.
"I never thought this day would happen. I knew it was possible, but I had convinced myself it would never happen."
Kendra's father looked at her mother. "What do you mean? You never told me our daughter was a mermaid!"
"I didn't actually know myself. I just knew she might be. But I was so sure she wasn't. All these years and nothing. I was fooling myself."
"Mom, what are you talking about?"
Kendra's mother took a deep breath. "Let me explain..."
