The day is windy and fraught with clouds. High overhead, the skies are pregnant with threats of rain as you park your car in the lea of the old McKinnison place. It has been abandoned for several years ever since old Andrew McKinnison was taken away to Bainbridge Sanitarium two years ago. You've heard that he was some sort of biochemical researcher or something and that, living alone for so many years with nothing but his work for company, had made him a bit ... eccentric. Kids who lived nearby told stories about him being more of a dark sorcerer who'd made a pact with the Devil rather than him being any sort of man-of-science. You chalk that up to the fact that his house was an old mansion on the edge of Vista Park; kids always make up stories about places like that.
You've heard some of the stories in the weeks you have been coming out here, assessing the old house from the outside. Some say that he experimented on animals inside. Others say that he was some sort of deviant, luring people inside to have is fun. None of that, though, matters to you.
Your job, as part of Peterson Reclamation, is to assess properties bought from the bank and help clean them up.
It's a boring job, but it pays well.
You flip through the ring of keys you have and, just as heavy rain starts to fall beyond the porch, open the door into the gloom.
