Gwynn and I have been married for a wonderful twenty years. We had fallen in love nearly at first sight, and
were married within three months of our first encounter. Now in our mid-forties, we still love each other
deeply, but...our sex life has become mundane; routine; BORING!
I look down at her as I pull out and kiss her. She sighs...and looks back up at me. I go into the bathroom and
grab a towel to clean off with. I finish and hand her the towel. She sighs again...
I pull on my pajamas as she finishes cleaning up and then puts on her nightgown. We snuggle up under the
covers and she turns off the light. I kiss her again. We lay there, and, as I drift off to sleep, preparing
myself mentally for another boring day at work tomorrow, I hear her sigh again. I fall into a restless
slumber, full of strange dreams; none of which I really remember the next morning when the alarm goes off.
I get up and groggily go to work--dreading the upcoming drudgery of the day... As I drive into work, I
contemplate our sexual routine... It hits me that THAT is the problem, it had become a routine; we had
basically three positions that we sort of rotated through... We got sexual release, but no EXCITEMENT! I pull
into my parking spot and slowly drag myself to my office thinking about possible solutions; maybe a good sex
position book...
Four LONG hours later, I start back home...feeling better. I am starting three weeks of vacation and the boss
sends me home early! Gwynn and I had not made any plans again this year, but at least it was time away from
work. I sigh deeply; we used to have such great adventures...
I pull into the garage and get out of the car. I am really glad that I am now on vacation as I feel the work-
related tensions melt away--we just need to come up with something special to do during the time. I go into
the house and find Gwynn waiting for me, wearing a dress and heels, not what I typically find her in when I
came home. I kiss her and give her an inquisitive look.
She smiles at me and says, "I was able to convince your boss to let you go a little early. We have an
appointment!" I look at her dumbfounded, and reply, "What are you talking about, Hon?" She smiles again and
says, "I made an appointment for us with Dr. Goodcome. She is THE sex therapist and I was lucky enough to snag
an appointment for this afternoon. We need to hurry, though. We need to be there in 40 minutes!" I look at
her, even more incredulously and say, "A SEX therapist? What in the world are you talking about? I don't want
to see a sex therapist! I mean I have thinking that we need to something, but a sex THERAPIST?" She responds,
rather urgently, "Come on, Sugar. We will discuss it on the way. If you are not convinced when we get there,
then we can turn around and cancel the appointment, OK?" She gives me that pleading look that I can NEVER turn
down. We get in the car and speed off to an adventure that neither of us EVER would have imagined in our
wildest dreams!
28 minutes later, we walk into Dr. Goodcome’s office suite and sign in with the receptionist. The name badge
she is wearing says her name is Georgette. Gwynn had easily worn me down into giving the therapy a try. I
could not argue that our sex life could use some spicing up. Georgette gives us some paperwork to fill out: A
contract, a questionnaire for each of us, and a fee schedule outlining the various therapy packages. Gwynn and
I settle in, quickly sign the contract, fill out the questionnaire that has some rather prying and strange
questions, and then start studying the package options. Georgette mentions that we should not make any
decisions yet, and that the Doctor was ready for us. As she buzzes us through the door to the inner sanctum, I
see her scanning our questionnaires into the computer.
