I had lots of questions in my mind, "Okey, before we begin. Can you explain how far back the Franklins are
werewolves?" I ask. "I'd say it dates back about 250 to 300 years." I ask "When I transform will I go nuts?"
He says "Go nuts, oh you mean will you have the animal instinct. No, you still retain your human mind. We're
not monsters." I said "Whew, so I won't kill a friend on full moon nights." Dad said "Only tonight, you'll
transform but afterwards, you have the option of transforming at will." "One last question, if I bite someone,
will they be cursed with lycanthropy?" Dad chuckles "My you sure a quite inquisitive about this, yes but
lycanyhtopy isn't a curse, but a more of a mutation form of rabies." I ask "Isn't rabies a canine sickness
that eventually leads to death to dogs?" Dad said "I doubt you ever die from this strand, just spread it
around by biting. You see early man tried to domesticate a wolf but got bitten and he became the first
werewolf."
I said "No more questions, shall we start?" Dad said "Yes." and shouted out "Everyone please come to the
living room, Joshua is getting a lesson in hightened senses and I like everyone to help out." My brother Jeff
along with my mother aunts, uncles and cousins comes into the room. Uncle Joey said "I see you had that talk
after all." Dad nods. "Now son, let's start with your hearing, close your eyes and try to block off all but my
voice." I did and with relaxing breathes I manage to block off all sounds except my dad's voice "Okey, done."
I said "Joey, go to the CD player and play track 12 on this CD." after a few minutes "Okey, try to focus on
the CD player and focus on the music." I did and soon I heard Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London playing on
the CD player. "Okey, I hear it." Dad said "Good, now for your sense of smell. Remember cousin Harriett? Focus
again on her perfume she's wearing." I did and I found that familiar scent. "I can smell it." Cousin Harriett
said "I knew my perfume was inmistakable attractive." Dad said "One last lession, tracking." "Tracking?" I
asked Dad says "Yes, tracking. Like the dogs we can track down others by their scent. Karen? Can you help with
this?" Karen says "Think of it as hide and seek, werewolf style." She hands me her pocket mirror, Dad says
"Thanks Karen now go hide somewhere in the house and Joshua will track you down." After a few minutes, Dad
said "Okey Joshua, sniff the pocket mirror and pick up Karen's scent." I did so and I found Karen's scent, I
put the mirror on the coffee table and start sniffing around the house, after a good 15 minutes I found her in
the upstairs linnen closet, Karen said "You found me, very good." She yells out "He found me dad." Uncle Joey
said "Okay, come down." Karen and I went down. Dad said "You have just gotten the basics, you learn more in
time for now. Let's celebrate your birthday."
