"B-but why?" You stammer in shock, even as the scent of the flowers begins to affect your mind. Diane smiled
sympathetically, reaching out with a gentle, calm touch to your arm as she replies.
"In all things there is balance, light and dark, life and death, action and consequence. So too is there a
balance between the world of those who consider themselves normal, and our world, where beings long forgotten
by your kind, outside of myth and legend reside. However, our numbers have grown slim, even in the old days
our species depended on interaction with humans, and interbreeding at rare times helped keep our bloodlines
pure, but in the separation, our lines have grown stagnant, and your lines have grown distant, disconnected.
So in recent years, we have reopened the doorways, allowing the possibility of outsiders to visit, but there
is always a price for visiting our world, many traps, for which you had fallen for two, and have added fresh
blood to our line."
"And there is no going back? Never?" You ask, tears welling up in your eyes, but the flowers continued to
work, and slowly, bit by bit, you begin to feel connected to the environment around you, and the thought of
leaving grows more and more distant by the moment. Diane inclined her head once, wrapping an arm around you.
"Do not fret sister, our life is wondrous, fertile, and loving. As the doorways between our worlds open more
you will meet many new creatures and people, but unlike the mortals, you will have a chance to grow, in
strength, and wisdom, and play an integral part of the salvation of our world. The nymphs in this meadow where
the last, but now your arrival has added two to our number, and with your help, soon it will grow." Her last
sentence makes you blink, and you silently tilt your head to the side, absentmindedly running your elegant
fingers through the grass and flowers beside you, the sensation sending a tremble of pleasure and ease through
you as you reply.
"But I was only one, how did my arrival equal two?" In response, Diane moves her hands to a low point in her
belly, resting there as she turns back to you, her eyes glinting in the light of the rising sun.
"In addition to being incredibly beautiful and powerful with natural magic, we are also incredibly fertile,
it is incredibly rare for a coupling to fail resulting in conception, I felt you would want something of your
old life to survive, and your daughter would add another to our number. You will soon understand what I mean."
As she spoke, your hands move to your own belly, and you feel a longing to fill it with new life, just as you
feel the urge to encourage the plants, flows, and trees around you to grow, suddenly you feel incredibly
connected, full of a new purpose, and the perfumes of the flowers begin to fill your changing mind with
knowledge...
