Jenny heard a ding from nearby and the two assistants moved back to her, each grabbed an end of the tray and
hefted her up off the counter. She tried to shift slightly to see beyond the kitchen lights, but one of the
women, Rachel, the name suddenly came to her, chastised her.
"None of that now. You'll turn out all lumpy and uneven." A firm hand fixed her face, eyes, nose and mouth
barely protruding from the brownie mix.
Jenny heard a clattering and felt a blast of heat.
"Wait!" she protested and she slid into the oven. The heat was like a dry sauna. It burnt her lungs as she
tried to keep breathing, but the curse took over and her lungs stopped pumping. Jenny tried to rise from the
tray, but her limbs wouldn't obey. Instead, a tingling feeling moved through her. She felt slow and thick and
as though she was... spreading, rising. Jenny knew she had a body. Yet she couldn't quite tell where it stopped
and the brownies around her began. The panic subsided and Jenny let the heat change her.
Time passed and then the shock of cold air hit her. The oven opened, Rachel and another assistant, Molly,
pulled her out. Rachel balanced her on the oven door and Jenny felt her plunge a toothpick into her center. It
itched but didn't hurt. Jenny couldn't see, but she knew it would come out clean.
"There now, see, you've baked up right. And when you're cool, we'll get you decorated for the party."
