It was an early Saturday afternoon, and Matt and his best friend, Dylan, both juniors in high school, had
finished working on a project for English.
“Good enough,” said Dylan.
“Yeah, I’ll edit it and send the finished file to you so you can look over it,” responded Matt. Matt was a
pretty smart kid (he was even on Quiz Team), and rather geeky, too, but he certainly wasn’t a social outcast
or unathletic. He played tennis, too, with Dylan, who was actually fairly popular, which was how he managed to
be elected to student council every year.
“Okay, okay, I know internet memes are stupid, but here, you should see this really awesome Nyancat remix,”
Matt said, opening up Google and typing the search terms in.
“You’re pathetic,” Dylan said, rolling his eyes and smiling.
“Okay…darn it!” Matt said sharply. “I meant to click on the YouTube link, let me go back….” He’d ended up on
some weird looking site with lots of annoying ads. Suddenly, a pop-up ad appeared. It had sound, one of the
*really* annoying ones…Matt tried navigating through the half-dozen open windows to close it, but the ad
began:
“Congratulations, you’ve been randomly selected by Super-Form Technologies Inc. to receive a special prize!
Your luck has earned you and all other persons accompanying you and present for this announcement the gift of
a random transformation, shift, or opportunity! Press ‘continue’ to receive your gift.”
Matt was trying to close the ad, but the computer seemed to be frozen – but he was able to accidentally click
on ‘continue’.
“In addition to your free transformation, shift, or opportunity, you will be given a free copy of our program,
Super-Form 7! Your free changes are…”
