Mrs. Abernathy’s English Lit class had just started and Kendra could swear she’d forgotten to do something; something she planned to do at lunchtime, but forgot due to the cafeteria serving her favorite, gyros.
When the teacher announced they would be studying Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Kendra thought, “It’d be funny if I were picked to play Queen Titania in that play given that I…” Then, as if on cue, a familiar twinge on her back and the sensation that her clothes were becoming looser reminded her of what she’d forgotten. “Oh, crap!” she thought.
Kendra’s hand immediately shot up and urgently waved to get the teacher’s attention. “Yes Kendra, what is it?” Mrs. Abernathy asked.
“I really need to use the bathroom BADLY and trust me when I say I DON’T want this coming out in the classroom.” Kendra said.
“Well, okay, but don’t go skipping the entire class, okay.” Mrs. Abernathy said. Kendra immediately jumped up, ran out the door and sped to the nearest bathroom. “Kids these days,” Mrs. Abernathy thought, “and what’s with the baggy clothes, anyway?”
Kendra was right about not wanting something to come out in the classroom, but it wasn’t anything relating to the last steps of digestion. The morning of her 18th birthday, she transformed into a 9-inch tall fairy. She was freaked out at first, but she soon learned she could change back after ten minutes. After that she warmed up to the idea and started transforming on a regular basis.
She learned she could move distant objects, create illusions and manipulate her tiny fairy voice to sound like her normal tone. Once, while experimenting in the nearby forest, she manipulated the water in a stream and conjured a ball of fire. However, that was the day she almost got caught by a hiker, so she avoided revealing her fairy form outside her house from then on.
It wasn’t by choice that she turned into a fairy, either. The day after the close call in the forest, Kendra again almost had her secret blown on a car trip with her Dad. It’s a good thing he had to stop to use the bathroom right then, or else Kendra wouldn’t have been able to hide in the women’s stall where she figured out that she had to become a fairy at least once a day or her body would be forced to change.
As a slowly shrinking Kendra ran toward the bathroom, holding up her ever-loosening slacks, she slipped her hand into her pocket, pulling out her fairy dress. It was a doll’s sundress that she modified soon after she started transforming and wore whenever she became a fairy. She was kind of embarrassed to be naked, even though no one ever saw her as a fairy. It was a light blue, backless and the skirt came down to just above her knees. She had already shrunk about a foot as she reached the bathroom to find…
