As the door opened, Jeff discovered that being a human-chronivac hybrid had its drawbacks. Before he could see his sister, he heard her.
"Hey, Jeff, do you have my blow dryer?"
Instantly, the image of the red plastic blow dryer formed in his mind. He felt his body changing. He could not speak. He could not move. His
body was collapsing on itself. By the time his sister had opened the door, Jeff was gone. Only a red blow dryer lay on his bed.
"There it is!" she exclaimed as she entered the room and picked up Jeff.
Back in the bathroom, she removed the towel from her wet hair and used the blow dryer to dry and style her hair.
Thirty minutes later, she went to put it away, and discovered her blow dryer in the back of the drawer.
"Two blow dryers? Jeff must've gotten one like mine," she said and chuckled. She had told Jeff to get his own blow dryer the last time he used
hers and hadn't returned it. She was surprised he had gotten a red one just like hers. She shrugged and carried Jeff back to his room.
"Hey, bro, sorry I - guess, he's not here. I'll just put this back where I got it and he'll never know."
Jeff lay there on his bed in the form of a blow dryer for what seemed like forever. He kept concentrating on changing back, but nothing
happened. Finally, when he stopped concentrating, he changed. He realized that he could change back to being Jeff quickly and easily as long
as he didn't have some image of some other change in his mind.
Jeff lay there naked, shivering and covered in a cold sweat. He got up and looked in the mirror. His skin had a metallic or plastic sheen - he was
definitely a human-machine hybrid.
"I'm a cyborg," he whispered.
