Kendra had quite a nasty little secret - she was a homunculus, or at least, half-way.
She had a birthmark on her left shoulder that looked like an ouroboros (a serpentine dragon eating it's own tail), and she never thought much
of it, until the day she found herself trapped in an ally on her 18th birthday. 2 guys with guns had her cornered, but when they shot her, the
bullets bounced off her body. Somehow, this triggered her change: her pupils got slit, her teeth got sharp, and red lines appeared on her body,
running down her arms and legs. She then got really mad, and attacked them with arms that became whips covered in barbs. She was about to
wrap her long, barb-covered tongue around them, when she saw herself in a broken mirror shard, and it horrified her. The 2 men got away,
and she forced herself to change back, and she did.
When she got home that day, she told her dad, and he told her it was because of her mom.
He'd fallen in love with a beautiful woman, but she died in a car accident, and when he used alchemy to try bringing her back, he lost his right
leg, and found he'd made a zombie-looking female creature. He fed it red stones, and when it had eaten enough, it looked just like his love,
but it wasn't really her. She had the same feelings his love did though, so they got married, and she gave birth to Kendra.
He'd suspected some of the red stones had been transferred to her from her mom, and this confirmed it.
It also explained why her mom was so young-looking (homunculi don't age), and when she told her mom about it, she revealed her true form
(slit pupils, sharp teeth, red lines, and the mark on her left shoulder. It got passed on in her genetic code, which is why she has it in the same
place as her), and told Kendra that if she fully embraced this side of herself, she'd stop aging too. Kendra didn't want to, because she'd not be
able to call herself "human" anymore. Her dad said she could repress this side of herself by eating an ice-cube in the morning, which would
supposedly "cool off" her aggression, but she'd forgotten to take one today, so when she scraped herself in gym class, she made it to the girls'
locker room before anyone saw her.
She looked in the mirror. Her wound had healed, but she was visibly a creature whose creation was outlawed, and if anyone saw her, she'd be in
BIG trouble!
(Author's note: this takes place in our time, and not during the 1920's (or so) like the FMA series, so no one you'd recognize would be in it, but
feel free to include new characters who are descendants of the originals)
As she tries to focus, her best friend Kara comes in and sees her, but she's not scared.
"It's okay Kendra." she says "I've got a secret like that too."
