The woman had gorgeous blonde hair, a fit body, and seashells covering her breasts; which made sense given the long, silvery blue singular limb flanked by elegant pelvic fins beginning at her waist. The woman curled her limb toward her, like no one wearing a costume could possibly duplicate, bringing her broad caudal fin out of the water for a brief moment. There was no doubt what this woman was.
“A real mermaid!” Cassandra whispered to herself. There was no question about it; she had to speak with her. Slowly Cassandra emerged from the foliage and, in a gentle voice said “Hello.”
The mermaid turned to her and gasped, “Oh my, a human!”
“Don’t be afraid, I won’t hurt you.” Cassandra said, cautiously approaching the mermaid so as not to scare her off. “I’ve never seen a real live mermaid before. I’m Cassandra.”
“My name’s Alexis.”
“I’m pleased to meet you, Alexis. Is this your home?”
“Yes, it is. I like to think of it as my own personal island.”
“Where is this island anyway?”
“Not in any waters you’re likely to have ever heard of.”
“What do you mean?”
“We are in Gaia, the world of magic that exists parallel to your own. More specifically, this island is in the middle of the Poseidion Ocean. How did you ever find your way here? No human of your world could possibly enter here on their own.”
Cassandra took off her shoes and socks before she sat down next to Alexis on the shore, dipping her legs into the water. “I have no clue. One minute I was sailing along the open ocean; the next, this island practically jumps out in front of me and I crash right into it. My boat’s a wreck and something tells me my distress beacon won’t be of any use.”
“Regrettably, I know nothing of boat repair.” Alexis said before looking at her tail. “As you may guess, our kind has little use for such things.”
“Yeah, I figured. Wow, I still can’t believe I’m talking to an actual mermaid.” Cassandra said as she timidly inched her hand toward the mermaid’s tail, but pulled it away before reaching it. Alexis saw this and taking Cassandra’s wrist, she placed the human’s hand on her tail. Cassandra slowly ran her hand down Alexis’ tail to the portion underwater. Alexis softly moaned, but Cassandra didn’t notice. “Wow, this is so cool. I mean, I’ve handled fish before on my dad’s boat, but this; this is something else entirely. It’s so smooth, but I can still feel the scales.”
“Your dad has a boat, too?” Alexis asked.
“Well, he gave it to me when he retired;” Cassandra answered before letting out an exasperated sigh, “and I scuttle it on a mermaid’s beach in another dimension. But in my youth, I’d go out with him all the time and help him catch fish and, truth be told, every time we went out I’d ask him if he thought we’d see any mermaids. He’d chuckle and answer ‘Maybe.’”
“You’ve always wanted to meet a mermaid, haven’t you?” Alexis asked.
“I sure have. It wasn’t always on my dad’s boat I was hoping to meet a mermaid either. We lived by the beach and I would sometimes swim out in the ocean, hoping that a mermaid would poke her head up out of the water and say hi. Sometimes I’d even swim without a bikini bottom with my legs pressed together and pretend I had a mermaid’s tail myself.” Cassandra blushed and turned her head down. “Sounds pretty silly, eh?”
“Not at all.” Alexis said as she caressed her tailfin across Cassandra’s shins and feet, sending an odd thrill up Cassandra’s body. “In fact, if you want, I can transform you into a real mermaid.”
“Really?” Cassandra asked.
“There’s a grand ocean out there to explore, and it’s better than being stuck on an island for who knows how long. Plus, I think you’d look absolutely stunning with a mermaid tail.” Alexis placed a hand on Cassandra’s thigh. “So, how about it, will you join me as a mermaid?”
