Daniel Simms walks alone down an empty street.
It's a quiet night in his small town, nothing moves. Even the crickets are taking the night off. A kind of
peaceful sound, but Daniel is distracted. His girlfriend left him, for his until recently Best friend. He was
on the fast track to losing his job, and he and his family were currently not on speaking terms. needless to
say things were not going his way lately.
Suddenly, as he passed by a shop window, he noticed a book. It was a small leather bound book that looked
incredibly old. The price tag was a little steep, but he could manage it. There would be a few less beer runs
in his future, but something about the book captivated him.
It's cover said only:
'The other side.'
He entered the store and bought it, from an agitated store clerk who was trying to close up for the night.
upon purchasing the book he rushed home to read it.
When he got home to his little apartment, he put away his coat, and ran to his room. Not knowing why he so
desired the book he opened it and began to read:
'Lo brave soul!' It began 'if you have opened this tome of lost knowledge you may find yourself on a path to
many things, weather it be a journey of great discovery, a fortune, or something terrible, is widely
unpredictable. Know this, that you continue at your own peril!'
The book continued on as such, not a story but telling a tale of a different world, identical to the one in
which we live, but altogether different:
'Each and every being of sentience, has another hidden life. They are two sides to a coin. This hidden other
life is kept in a world beyond the reach of most. The only thing that can be expected of this other life is
that you are still the same species as you currently are. Everything and Anything else about your life can be
drastically different in this other world. you might be athletic, or an enterprising business person, Or a
tyrant, or a rebel. You could be of any race, age, cultural upbringing, and gender.
These worlds are separate for a reason, This book can teach you to see this other world, but you must
understand this. Doing so can slowly cause your two lives to connect, changing you until you fully resemble
your other self. Be careful in visiting this place. also a number of things can cause instantaneous lifeline
merging, even on your first visit. These things include marriage, intercourse, the taking of another's life,
and death. currently these are the only known causes for total lifeline merging.'
Daniel kept reading all through the night, the books small size betraying it's actual length. It went into
great detail about this other world, and talked about previous cases of travel. some of the people it
mentioned were famous. According to the book, Author J.K.Rowling Was once a slightly overweight baker, until
their lifelines fused.
Daniel enjoyed the book like he would any other fantasy. The final pages detailing the methods to access this
other world.
'To see beyond your own existence, look into a mirror, for it is a reflection of a different reality, one must
also be nearly asleep, and just before they drift off into slumber they must say:
I am seeking escape from my own life, and seek the shelter of a world beyond my own.'
The hours spent reading the book had taken their tole on Daniel, sleep pulled at him trying to make him fall
sway. As he read the final words, he looked up into a mirror, and he fell over asleep.
Suddenly, he was somewhere else. He was outside in an alleyway, but furthermore he wasn't who he was just
moments before, he was...
