You could say one thing about my dad- he never held anything back. Whatever he was thinking or curious about,
he asked aloud without any sense of embarrassment(for himself or for others).
"So, Joey..."
"Josie" I corrected him.
"Josie. So now that you're a girl, are you still attracted to girls? Or does being straight carry over and
make you into men now?"
I didn't want to tell dad that I turned myself into a lesbian(not that he really cared, he probably would have
shrugged and said "OK". It was for Ruthie's benefit. Maybe my mom too, but I never heard her express any
opinion one way or the other about the gays), but I didn't want to tell him that I was into guys either. I
wasn't, and had no interest in doing so.
"Not sure yet, dad. I'm still attracted to the same girls I was when I was a boy, but I think that's psychic
residue or something, carrying over. Maybe in a few days, I'll figure it out."
Dad nodded, and went back to eating. "You still up to play some cribbage, later?"
"Sure" I said, smiling. He was a great dad. I hope that our friendly relationship wouldn't be ruined now that
I was female. I want my dad to still see me as an equal, and not as a "Daddy's Girl" that need's constant
protection.
Ruthie used her magic wand to refill her glass with magic water(which was basically just water, but it came
directly from her wand like a water fountain) and drank heartily from it. She discovered at the dinner table
earlier that she couldn't create food or any other liquid besides water with the wand, thus finding the first
of her limitations in being a magician.
"You could solve the drought problem with that, Ruth" I told her.
"I know. I have so much responsibility now. Like I'm Miss America or something."
I rolled my eyes. My sister could be so ditzy sometimes.
