Kendra washed her hands off in the bathroom sink. She exited the door and was about to return to Biology class, when a familiar pressure developed in her back. “My wings!” she said to herself. “Oh, no, I didn’t take it this morning.”
What Kendra didn’t take was a potion; the recipe provided to her on her 18th birthday; by whom, she didn’t know, but it allowed Kendra to hide her wings, but also suppressing her magic, for 27 hours, but she neglected to take it this morning, and now, her wings were coming out.
Using her now unsuppressed magic, Kendra struggled to slow down the growth of her wings, which were already pushing her shirt back. She fled to the central stairwell of the school; it led to the roof. The custodian kept the gate to the top level locked at all times, but now that Kendra could use her magic, she unlocked the gate and entered. She unlocked and opened the door to the roof as well. After she closed it behind her, she took off her shirt and relaxed as her white feathery wings flared out of her back.
It wasn’t the most pleasant sensation as they grew in, but it always felt like a sweet release when it was over. She cast a spell on herself designed to prevent anyone from seeing her that she didn’t want to. She didn’t want anyone thinking she was a jumper; or worse, seeing her with her wings.
Kendra sat on the gravely rooftop, took out her cell phone and texted her best friend Dana. “It happened again, bring it to the rooftop.” Kendra had spare potions made to keep in her own backpack, which she didn’t bring to the bathroom, and for Dana to keep in case of emergencies.
“Now to wait for Dana.” Kendra said to herself.
