“Kendra.” Lisa’s voice spoke from behind her two friends.
“Lisa,” Kendra asked, “my parents; did they…?”
Lisa bowed her head and shook it. “They wouldn’t even listen to me.”
Tears welled up in Kendra’s eyes. “So that’s it then, they don’t want anything to do with me. For all I know, they’re calling a marine biology lab right now to have us dissected or something.”
“No, they won’t. She probably did the same thing as she did when my parents disowned me.” April said.
“What’s that?” Kendra asked.
“I altered their memories. As far as they know, you merely told them you were a lesbian, got into a terrible fight and they disowned you.” Lisa sat down and started crying, too. “This is all my fault; it seems everyone I befriend has their lives wrecked. If only I had a better control of my siren nature.”
“No, it’s not your fault.” April said. “I would never fault humanity as a whole for it, but you know many humans still have problems dealing with their own differences, let alone what would happen if you added things like mermaids to the mix. It was too much for them to take in and they couldn’t handle it.”
Lisa cheered up a little. “Thanks April.”
“But, still they’re the only family I have.” Kendra said. “Where will I go, now?”
Lisa put her hand on Kendra’s. “Live with us.”
