It was sad.
Jay, who should have been so full of confidence walked up to Kat and as humbly as possible asked her if she
wanted to go out.
Kat brushed him off and tossing her hair at him in a dismissive move turned and walked off with her
girlfriends.
Jay tried all week. His depression growing with his appetite.
How could he possibly get Kat to go out with him.
He finally had an idea.
Kat I would like to invite you out to a buffet with me. Would you care to go?
Now Kat was getting tired of Jay asking so she said she would go. But just as a friend.
That was all Jay needed he was going to show her how well he could eat.
When Friday came he put on his tightest clothes and went to pick up Kat.
He stood there with a hand full of flowers looking as pitiful as possible. His white striped shirt stretching
at the button holes showing the t-shirt he wore beneath.
Jay tried to pull in his stomach somewhat so that the buttons wouldn't burst too early and Kat took the
flowers and placed them on the table next to the door.
Jay put out his arm to escort her to his car but she reminded him that this was just as friends.
When they got to the buffet Jay tried to sit next to her but she insisted on sitting across from him and he
filled two plates immediately and sat down and through bites tried to carry on a conversation with Kat.
Plate after plate went down to Jay's belly and soon the buttons were popping.
When he had gotten to his twelfth plate and had finally had his fill they sat and talked. Jay finding it very
difficult to talk with his stuffed abdomen.
This was nice Kat said but I got to get home.
Jay wasn't sure if that was a plus or not. But they got up, Jay with some difficulty and he drove her home.
The drive home was very quiet and Jay kept looking over at Kat to see if she was sneaking a glance at his
opened shirt. But she just kept looking straight ahead.
Jay, the gentleman, got out of the car and escorted Kat back to her front door and he asked if she would like
to go out with him again.
Oh Jay, you are so sweet, but you know I am not into you.
But I am trying.
I know. And maybe in 20 or 30 years you will be starting to be hot but you just need to take care of yourself
and enjoy your school years. We can be friends. Kat gave him a peck on the cheek like you would your brother
and turned and went inside.
Jay lumbered to his car and headed home.
As he laid in his bed looking at the ceiling he wondered if he would ever be good enough for Kat. The ache in
his belly made his hands instinctively go to rubbing the sides and although he wanted to roll over and bury
his face in his pillows the pressure on his stomach made that impossible. He just laid there until he came to
a decision.
