Jess felt a little sick. She had been trying to make Millie a happy, well-adjusted person, not re-establish slavery as an institution. If Lincoln was the great emancipator, what was she? At least Millie was white, so maybe it wasn't racial?
Jess pulled out her tablet and checked wikipedia (which still seemed to exist, thank the Chronivac) for "modern slavery."
"Slavery was re-established in the United States as a consequence of the thirty-seventh amendment, which established the constitutional right to sexual fulfillment. When some people claimed that they could only be fulfilled as sexual slaves, the courts ordered the establishment of a regulated system of sexual slavery. Masters are required to keep slaves fed, monitor their medical conditions, arrange for medical treatment if necessary, and not inflict crippling or fatal damage or exploit slaves in a non-sexual way. Slavery is a voluntary condition, and slaves comprise .01% of the population. Tests show that slaves rank high for sexual fulfillment and overall happiness."
