Following Karen out into the hall, watching as his now big sister came up the stairs, Declan continued to protest and try to get Karen to stop, but listened as Karen squealed out, "You'll never guess what Declan has done!"
To both their surprise, Denise stated first, "I thought I told you take a nap," the moment she spied Declan and glancing at Karen, she demanded, "Who is Declan?"
Pointing at Declan, Karen retorted, "He, or she, is. She used some amulet to turn in Katie."
"It was an accident," Declan cried out, stamping his foot as Denise commented, "I don't know what game you two are playing, but Karen stopping winding your sister up and Katie, you are supposed to be taking a nap," and before Declan could raise another protest, Denise grabbed her by the arm and started to march her back to Katie's room.
Behind Declan and Denise, Karen sputtered a moment as Declan thought, "The moment Denise sees Katie the truth will come out," as Karen finally announced, "I'll prove that that is Declan," and running past Denise and Declan, she headed for Declan's room.
Watching as Karen pushed open the door, Declan tried to see into the room, but found herself dragged into Katie's room as Karen cried out, "What the hell!"
"Watch your language," Denise called out and then, glancing down at Declan, she stated, "Put your clothes back on young lady and take a nap," and turning about, she left, leaving Declan starting at a room that looked like it had when Katie had been five, but was now clearly devoid of a second Katie.
As Declan spied a white t-shirt and a blue, denim skirt lying on the floor, Karen suddenly appeared. Hissing out, "I don't know what you've done or how you did it, but I will get to the bottom of this!" and slamming the door to Katie's room, she left Declan standing, still, in nothing but a pair of underwear and staring at a room that clearly had a second Katie and didn't look quite the way it currently did a moment ago.
Picking up the clothes, knowing for some reason that they were still clean, Declan pulled on the skirt and then the shirt. Torn between being happy that she had finally become a girl but at the same time upset because her sister Katie had disappeared, Declan started for the bed, deciding to at least do what Denise had said and take a nap.
As she reached the bed, Declan suddenly remembered the amulet and heading instead for the closet, he pulled it open. On the floor she sees the pile of clothes, all of which look like what Katie had worn when she had been five, but no robe.
Thinking, "No!" Declan began to search the pile of clothes and after a couple seconds, breathed a sigh of relief when he found the necklace.
As he held the medallion close, afraid that he was going to lose it, Declan glanced about her room, unaware that she had stopped thinking of it as Katie's room, and spying a jewellery box, she decided to hide the amulet inside it. Depositing the trinket into the box, Declan covered it with the costume jewellery and figuring it was safe, she returned to her bed.
Cuddling up with her favourite plush animal, Declan snuggled under the covers and for a moment, stared at the wall, wondering what had happened to Katie and what it was Karen had seen to cause her to curse. Yawning, she turned over and faced the opposite direction and asking herself, "Can I live my life like this? I did become a girl, but at the expense of..." but suddenly found herself drawing a blank as she could not remember the name of the person.
Another yawn escapes her and snuggling deeper under the comforter, hugging her plush closer, Declan let her thoughts drift and in the end drifted off to sleep.
