You and Lydia spent a fun, but uneventful day together. She made no mention of her encounter with the genie so you were unaware of it. You were both looking forward to Senior Prom the next weekend. You dropped Lydia off at her house and finished some homework for the next day.
Monday meant it was time to return to school. In the last few days you'd meet a genie, your girlfriend had turned into a mermaid twice, and you'd had sex for the first time. Nothing in any of your classes was going to be interesting by comparison, especially with your senior year nearing an end.

You met Lydia in the cafeteria during lunch.
"Uneventful morning?" she inquired.
"Yeah, just the same old classes. You?"
"I'm not wearing a swimsuit so nothing exciting."
You both shared a laugh that nobody else would understand. One person who really wouldn't understand happened to walk by.
"Gloating over your win?" sneered Monica.
"This has nothing to do with you" said Lydia. "The world doesn't revolve around you, no matter how much you wish it did."
"Nobody embarasses me and gets away with it" threatened Monica. "You'll be sorry!"
With that, Monica stormed off.
"Should we be concerned?" you asked.
"Monica will probably try to spread some stupid gossip for a day or two before her ego clashes with someone else. If there's one thing I wont miss about swim team it's her."
"Funny thing is the truth is wilder than any gossip she could invent."

Lydia had homework so you dropped her off at home after school before heading home yourself. Your parents weren't home from work yet. After the events of the last few days, you felt like going for a swim. Of course, you'd much rather go swimming with Lydia, but that would have to wait another day. Your relationship was sure to be forever changed by what had happened recently.
You put on your swim trunks and dove into the pool in your back yard. You were nowhere as good a swimmer as Lydia, but thanks to her you at least knew how to do more than the dog paddle.
After several laps in the pool, you pulled yourself out of the water. But sitting on the edge of the pool, you began to feel strange.
