Cassandra listened to the sound of Tulip’s wings fluttering in the air. It was a gentle buzz combined with a slight hum and a subtle ringing. For some reason, whenever she focused on the sound, she felt a twitch on her back.
Cassandra finally spoke up. “So, who are we going to see?”
Tulip answered. “I think you’ll like her, she’s…” Tulip suddenly stopped in mid air.
“What?” Cassandra asked. “Is something wrong?”
As Tulip slowly lowered herself to the ground, she said, “I sense it, your magic.” Tulip set Cassandra on the ground.
“I have magic; since when?” Cassandra asked.
“Probably since you got here. It must have been too small for me to pick up. You see, I’m still learning to attune my magical senses; but that still doesn’t explain how you shrunk on your own; unless…” Tulip closed her eyes and concentrated. Cassandra saw Tulip’s antenna perk up, but her attention was cut short when she felt more twitching on her back, more intense this time, causing her to gasp and arch her back.
“What was that, Cassandra?” Tulip asked. “Did you feel something just now?”
“I don’t know, something’s up with my back.”
“As I suspected. The magic developing in your body is fairy magic. So far, all the magic you’ve manifested so far has been geared towards shrinking you to fairy size; but that’s just half of the process.”
“And the other half?” Clarissa asked, knowing the response.
“The other half will… require a change of clothing; perhaps something without a back. Here, let me help with that.” Tulip held out her hand and suddenly, Cassandra’s shirt and overalls changed into a backless sundress made of rose petals.
“Wow, it’s pretty!” Cassandra said. “But, how long will it be until I start to transform?”
“Very soon,” Tulip grabbed Cassandra and took off, “we’re not far now.”
