Calvin let out a scream of pleasure as the roller coaster he was riding suddenly dipped violently downward and drawing his breath back in, he waited in expectation as it began the trek up the next incline. When the ride came to an end, Calvin exited and for a moment he thought about going back on.
Instead he looked about the carnival, thinking about how it had come a month early this year, and after a moment, he began to amble down the midway. As he walked, he gazed at the other people walking about, watching the girls in particular, thinking how it would be to force them into their place. "A place of servitude to the superior sex and gender," Calvin thought as a smile played across his face.
When he spotted another ride he wanted to ride, Calvin thought about how great it was to be a man and that he either didn't have to depend on someone else to make his choices for him or that his choices had to depend on somebody else's decisions. Approaching the ride, Calvin fished out the appropriate number of tickets and handed them to the operator, a man that Calvin thought looked to be of Roma descent. As he boarded the ride, he thought to himself, "Now this is a man's ride," as he thought about how fast it would go and after preparing himself, he thought, "Not something for a squirmish, squealing, silly girl."
His mind drifting away from how inferior he thought the female half of the human race was, Calvin gave himself over to the pleasure of the ride and when it came to an end, he was more convinced that it wasn't something a girl shouldn't go on.
Wandering the midway, still watching the girls in a surreptitious manner, Calvin pondered over what ride he should go on next. Approaching a vender's stall, run by a man that Calvin also thought was of Roma descent, he stared at wares being offered, thinking that only a girl would like what was being offered. Picking up a ring that was three bands of teal, white and pink intertwined together, Calvin slipped it on his finger and thought in a mocking tone, "Oh it is so pretty. It goes with my hair. It goes with my purse. It goes with my shoes and clothes and hair. My boyfriend will just think I am so cute while wearing it," and snickering, he twisted it three times in a clockwise manner as he slipped it from his hand.
"Do you like it?" a voice asked and glancing up from the ring, Calvin realised that the Roma man had approached.
Shrugging, Calvin dropped the ring and thought about telling the Gypsy man what he really thought. Instead, he commented, "Maybe my girlfriend might like it," in an offhand way as he brushed aside a couple other rings in the tray before him.
"Take it as a gift," the Roma man said, a smile playing across his face.
Shaking his head, Calvin commented, "No. That's okay. Besides, surely this stuff costs something and nothing is for free."
"Take it," the man said again and picking up the ring, he added, "Consider it a gift. May it serve you in the proper context," and holding out his hand, a slight smile playing across his lips, he waited for Calvin to take the ring.
Unsure what he should do, not really having a girlfriend, but not wanting to insult the man, Calvin reached out and took the ring. As he did so, he commented, "Thanks," but before he could say anything else, the man turned away and began talking to somebody else. Taking in all this, Calvin glanced down at the ring he'd just been given and thinking he could find somebody to take it, he slipped it into his pocket.
"Perhaps one of my co-workers," he thought as he turned away from the vender's stall and began to wander again.
----
Hours later, out of tickets, Calvin left the carnival. Walking home, he let his thoughts drift and placing his hands inside his pockets he remembered the ring that the vender had given him. Taking it from his pocket, he stared at it and for a moment, thought about tossing it away. Instead, he once again slipped it on his finger and in a mocking tone, began to think how a girl would see the trinket.
"Excuse me," a voice announced, disrupting his thoughts and glancing in the direction of the speaker, Calvin saw a woman.
Figuring she was about twenty, twenty-one years old and could easily be manipulated, Calving commented, "Yes?"
"I don't mean to be a bother," the woman said as she stepped closer. "But do you think you could assist me with something?"
Grinning, thinking that the girl was going to be really easy to manipulate and put in her place, Calvin shrugged and told her, "It's no bother." and forgetting about the ring he was wearing, he asked, "What is it that you need?"
