Kalie was in the midst of her workout routine, jogging around the high school track. Something about the school
had seemed odd lately, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. There was a peculiar stench in the air, like
sweat mixed with sulpher and she could have sworn she'd felt the ground shake a moment earlier.
As she approached her two mile goal, Kalie felt the ground shake again, more violently than before. An
earthquake? Here? She stopped jogging and noticed a strange glow in the grass beside her. She squinted at it and
saw that throbbing green light was coming from a thin fissure.
"What the?" she managed before the crack started lengthening, jaggedly snaking in her direction.
Kalie leaped out of its path only to see it change directions and double back towards her. What were the chances
of that? Could it be chasing her? Kalie took off at a sprint, making a break for the fence and the nearby woods.
The fissure seemed to be following her, but she managed to stay ahead of it as she scrambled up the fence and
into the forest.
Kalie stopped to catch her breath and looked behind her. The fissure had stopped at the edge of the track. It
hadn't really been following her, had it?
As she looked on, she failed to see the small fissure opening up between her legs.
