But.
Although, mentally, you have become the man of your dreams, a part of you is unhappy. Whyever so?
A voice inside you - a small, but present voice of your former self - is screaming. You have left the love of your life to die, solely to steal his life... you think, however quietly, if that is what you truly desire.
Thinking on it, your family, too, will wonder where it was that you went. You then realize a plan that will satisfy all parties involved.
You find a collection of books in John's - now your - bedroom. Among these, naturally, was a yearbook from your senior year. Why wouldn't you have a yearbook, you think - you were the most popular guy there! You turn to the image of your former self, and then take off the ring.
Quickly, you go to get the body of the former John Wolfe, and bring it up to his room. While he is passed out, you slide the ring onto his finger - a simple task, now that it's his size - and the dials reset. You pause for a moment, but are not changed; the ring can affect more than one person at a time, you think to yourself.
You brush his ring finger along your picture, and slowly turn the dial upward.
Two, three, four. He becomes a bit shorter and less muscular, as his hair darkens.
Five, six, seven. His muscles become less defined while his hair begins to match yours - er, his; unshaven. His manhood, too, begins to resemble that which was once yours.
Eight, nine, ten. He becomes the splitting image of your old self. Part of you can't help but feel a strange attraction to him... but you mute it. He remains unconscious; you continue, setting the blue dial to ten.
Then you alter the yellow dial.
As you turn the number to five, you begin feeling as though a weight has drained from you.
Six, seven, eight.
"Who are you?", the man asks. You give your old name to him one final time. You tell him of the ring and its properties, ensuring that it remains locked deep within his subconscious mind. He may not ever remember the ring's nature, but he will know it exists... and that might be enough. Just as he opens his mouth to question the absurdity of the question...
Nine.
All he remembers of his old existence now is the ring, and only vague memories at that. He is the man you once were, and you are now him. With that, you take off the ring and place it back on yourself: John Wolfe.
He falls asleep again. With that, you carry him to your old doorstep and ring. You return home before anyone sees you, and begin preparing for the upcoming party.
