You know that you have to get away...with your tail, you swim, faster, stronger, escaping this merman's grasp, and away. You weave and dodge until you lose him...and head back to the fountain.
You find yourself there, looking for anything, anything that will tell you about it. Anything at all.
"Something...ANYTHING...HELP ME!" You say. You pound on rocks, claw at the walls, until you fall, sobbing into the fountain.
"Do not despair, my daughter..." You hear.
"I'm not a daughter..."
"Calm yourself. I had hoped for one like you...I know you were once a life-bringer."
"What?" You ask the strange voice. "Who are you?"
The voice seems to come from the fountain. "Mother Gaia, mother ocean, I have many names. Men are life-bringers, who bring the seeds of life, to the life-bearers, those that give of themselves to bear the life...and only with harmony between the two can new life not only come to be, but prosper. Your role has changed from bringer to bearer, young one."
"Great. I get to be pregnant."
"No, you get to help. The life-bringers and life-bearers of your line will aid the humans, my youngest children. You are of the humans, as are all the merfolk. You can save them."
"And Andrew?"
"He...has the passion. But he has let it consume him. Maybe he can be brought back and become the life-bringer he was meant to be.
