Cassie looked at herself in her dresser's mirror with disdain. "Did you have to give me pigtails?"
Rachel gave the brush in her hands a confused look. "I...I didn't even think about it. It just felt like the natural thing to do after brushing your hair. Pull them out if you don't want them."
Cassie raised her hands, fully intending to remove the bands holding up her pigtails, but she realized she didn't actually know how to take them off. It seemed like it should be so simple, but no matter how hard she thought about those bands in her hair, the solution to removing them was a mystery. She turned around, opening her mouth to say something, but blinked when she saw that she had to tilt her head up to look her friend in the eye. "Hey, Rachel? Since when are you taller than me?"
Rachel stepped toward Cassie to compare their heights. Cassie was supposed to be the taller one by an inch or so. Now she looked three inches shorter than Rachel. And there was something else.
"You look...younger," Rachel said, squinting her eyes. Cassie's face had a more youthful appearance, and her A-cup breasts looked like they were barely buds beneath her shirt. The pink shirt and overalls were starting to look like a more appropriate fit, although Cassie still looked to be between twelve and fourteen. If she got any younger, though...
"Rachel, you look older!" Cassie yelped in a slightly higher pitch than her usual voice.
"What?" Rachel said. She looked into the mirror and realized it was true. The difference was subtle, but she could tell that there was a change in her face. She even noticed her hair had gotten a little longer. "Well, of course I'm older. I'm a sophomore in college and you're still in middle school. Wait...that's not right."
"Rachel?" Cassie looked concerned for a second, then suddenly pouted and stomped her foot. "What's happening? I can't dress myself, I lose years off my life...and you're acting like you care more about college than your little sister!"
Upon hearing "Little sister," both girls stood silent and looked at each other with wide eyes.
"You're not my sister," Rachel said. "...Right?"
"No, I'm not. I...I don't think I am," Cassie said in a wavering voice.
Rachel took a step back and put her hand on her head. "We've got to figure this out. Whatever's happening is affecting both of us!"
