"I have always wondered what it would be like to be huge!" he thought. "Like an elephant."
At that moment, James's nose felt rubbery. It began to move and pull away from his face. It was getting bigger and much, much longer! He felt as though he were breathing through a straw--his nostrils were so far away from his face! He gained some control over developing muscles and lifted his changing nose in front of his eyes.
"This can't be happening!"
James touched his lengthening trunk with his hands. The trunk's skin was course and gray. His hands were taking on the same color. James's mouth also felt funny, and he couldn't recognize how until his left hand touched something hard underneath his new trunk. It was a tusk! Already, over a foot of ivory had grown out of his mouth, on both sides!
"I'm turning into an elephant," he thought. "A real life elephant!"
His hands lost their dexterity as the width of his arms became mostly uniform. His hands spread out and flattened out completely. His fingernails thickened, and James knew he had front legs.
The thick new legs obviously burst through James's shirt, but he was surprised that his pants ripped, too. In fact, he had burst out of all of his clothes. He was rapidly enlarging. He could was already eye-level with the roof of a house in front of him. He worried that someone in the living room might glance out and see a naked giant with the upper body of an animal. James didn't have time to be embarrassed about that, though: the changes were coming too fast!
A knew kind of muscle kicked into action and both of his ears started to sway. He could feel them flapping. James knew his ears must be huge. He then felt his legs thicken and change the same way his hands had. He could also feel his chest gaining an incredible girth.
"I wonder how much I weigh now. A ton?"
He felt an unfamiliar spasm at the bottom of his back, then something flapping around.
"What is that? Oh! It must be my tail. I can't believe it! I actually have a tail. I also flap my ears and breathe through a trunk. Just like the elephants at the zoo!"
He was now standing upright, much taller than any of the one-story homes. This old posture could not support his enormous new weight. Inevitably, James felt a terrible pain in his spine and legs as they forced him to fall forward. He raised his trunk and emitted a loud trumpeting sound. The ground trembled when his front feet landed.
James stood there for a moment on all fours. His stomach felt like a gaping pit as hunger pangs coursed through his gargantuan self. If you've ever read how much elephants have to eat in a day, you can surely understand why he felt this way.
James turned his attention to his surroundings and looked for food. A lot of food.
