There is a line of creamy colored ovals on the lines of your fingers. The paintbrush is rubbing on some of them...the skin underneith is tender. As you watch, another row pushes themselves up through your skin, and now that you're aware you feel tiny pinpricks of pain. Some lean up against the other row...but some just seem to sit there, like pebbles in your flesh.
What's going on here?
Another row pushes its way out, and the first few...the ones you didn't notice up near your nail, turn a shade darker, a bit more opaque. You feel a funny shiver run down your spine as you stare at your hand. They look...they look like scales! What's going on here!
You watch for a few moments before you realize that there is now a tingle in your other hand. Bringing it up, you see rows of these finger-nail like ovals pushing up on all your fingers, the pebbling wrapping around them like a bizzare bandage. Your hands feel funny, but just as suddenly as it began, it stops.
You stare at your hands, laying them against your skirt. You have scales wrapped around your fingers, and five rows of them on the backs of your hands. They're small, about the size of your fingernail, and the pebbling has the same size and texture as cat litter. The scales and pebbling is darker at the tip of your fingers than near the end, but only if you look closely.
But what's going on? And why is this happening?
