"Sure," Rob said. "I haven't gotten anything to wear yet. That's why I'm over on this side of town." And with that, he got into the backseat of Ben's car. Sitting on the seat next to him was a medium-sized box with no apparent label to tell him what was inside. But he didn't concern himself with that at the moment. Why would he care about some box?
A moment later, Ben drove the car out onto the road again and headed down the street. During the ride, Rob was feeling increasingly uneasy. A couple of times, when he looked at Ben's reflection in the rear view mirror, he could have sworn that Ben was checking him out and even smiling. What was that about? And the few times when Ben and Tony talked, he noticed a sort of effeminate tone in their voices. Why were they talking like that? Didn't they know that it was creeping him out? Only fags and queers talked like that. But he knew that Ben and Tony weren't gay. They were about as straight as they came and despised gays just as much as Rob and most of the other jocks did. So what was up? Why were they acting like that?
Suddenly, the car made a right turn into a parking lot. Rob looked out the window and saw that they were parking in front of a women's apparel store.
"Hey, why are we going here?" Rob asked, confused. "I thought we were going to a costume store. I don't think they have costumes here."
