You take a deep breath and look over yourself. There is no way to hide a transformation like this. You pick up the spell book from your bed and walk towards the door. Might as well get this over with. You open the door and walk out onto the second floor landing. You could hear her working in the kitchen. You slowly make your way downstairs, still a little unsure of walking on your new hooves.
You walk into the kitchen, your hooves clacking on the hard floor. You see her back is to you, finishing up dinner on the stove.
"Hey Mom, I found this interesting book at the library," You say.
"Oh yeah?" she replies, still focused on the dinner on the stove.
"It was called "Shapeshifter Spells: Mythological Monsters." I read a spell from it and...and it turned me into a Satyr," you say.
"That's nice, honey," replies your Mom. Then a moment later it registers what you said and she turns around. She takes in your new transformed state and slowly walks over to you. "Oh my god, is this real?"
"Yeah, it is. It was an accident, I didn't think it was real, but now that it happened, it's actually really cool," you reply.
Your mom slowly feels over your horns and then hugs you, which is a relief. "This is something else."
"Yeah, it really is," you reply. "You're not mad?"
"No, of course not. Surprised, yeah, but not mad." She says, reassuringly. "Is that the book?"
"Yeah, it is." You hold out the book to her.
She takes the book from you and sits down at the table and starts flipping through the book.
You sit down next to her, curious to see what she will find.
"Well, here's the spell to change you back, right here on page three. That'll be handy since you can't go to school like that," she said, smiling.
"Yeah, no, that would not be good," you agreed.
She kept flipping through the book. "There are so many options here. I may have to try something out myself, now that we know you can turn back."
She put down the book and went back to preparing dinner. You hear your younger brother, Nick, come running downstairs. You wonder what you'll say to him when he comes around the corner and his eyes do all the work.
"Whoa! Cool!" he exclaims, grinning ear to ear. "How'd you do that?"
"It was this book," you reply, pointing to the book on the table. "It's a magic book."
"Sweet!" he replies. Nick starts looking through the book. "I wanna turn into something too!"
"Not now, you have to eat your dinner first," you Mother replies, taking the spell book away and putting it on the kitchen counter.
"Aww...all right," replies your Brother.
All three of you quickly eat your dinner and your Mom does the dishes. All three of you go to the living room and you all sit down together.
"Ok, I have thought about this, and I'm going to let you two continue to use this book, but you have to promise me that you will turn yourselves back before school tomorrow. And we can't tell your father about this when he comes back into town. Lord knows what he would think," she said.
"We promise!" you both reply in unison.
"Okay," your Mom says and she hands over the book to Nick and walks out of the room. Nick immediately starts flipping through the book as your Mom walks out of the room.
"What to choose, what to choose..." says Nick to himself.
