Jake sat down to take his bio quiz, and he felt pretty confident in answering the questions. But an hour
later, he was summoned to the principal's office to discuss his answers to the test.
He was surprised to see his father and his buddy Joe Carpenter arrive.
"What did you do now, son," said Joe. Immediately, Jake realized that Joe and his dad were partners, and as
the new memories unfolded, he almost asked about his mother. Then he knew why he had been summoned to the
principal's office.
"Gentlemen, please come in. You too, Jake."
He closed the door and sat down soberly he asked, "Has Jake ever exhibited heterosexual tendencies?"
"Jake?"
"My boy?"
They both sounded shocked.
"Well, let me read you his essay on where babies come from -" the principal began.
Jake blurted out, "I only wrote that because of the Assembly today."
"Assembly?" asked Joe who seemed to be the more nurturing parent.
"Yes, earlier today we had a heterosexual awareness assembly," the principal answered. "Is this your way of
coming out, Jake?"
"No, it's just Jason is so intolerant. I just thought well maybe," Jake blushed he was flustered. He had
written what was true in his old world, and what could be true in this world, if children weren't bred invitro
and automatically separated from their biological parents, as they were in this world. Jake suddenly realized
that Joe's DNA was in him too. That was how it worked. All women's eggs were harvested. The genetic content
of one woman would be extracted from an egg, and inserted into her female spouse's egg. Then two husbands
would have their sperm extracted and injected into the egg. Maybe that was why everyone was slightly
different, they had only half of their original chromosomes. Except Jake didn't feel different. He wasn't from
this world, he had been cursed here. Joe wasn't his real father, but there was a Jake from this world where
had he gone? Was he dead? Was he in Jake's old hetero world trying to cope with a female mother? He made a
lot of faces, but didn't say anything coherent.
"Jason is Jake's boyfriend," Joe explained.
"Ah," said the principal, "So Jake is normal. He was just upset by Ellen and Neil speaking here. I had asked
them to not get political, but they managed to go off on that diatribe about wanting to make their own
babies," the principal shuddered, "I guess this is just the result of Jake's psychic trauma," he said waving
the test booklet. He looked apologetically at Jake's fathers, and said, "It wasn't my idea to have them speak.
Orders came directly from the superintendent. Babies from men and women having sex." He shuddered again, and
made a distasteful expression.
"I'm all for tolerance," Jake's father said, "But this is going too far. He's a young impressionable man. So
are all the other students here. Do you really want a boy and girl to experiment?"
"Oh, goodness no! As I said, they went too far. I just didn't realize the impact until now. I thought, well,
I thought he was coming out, but he was acting out. It's not the way I want to run my school!"
