Colette turned around in a split second. She practically jumped out of her shoes. "Who is that?" she asked
with a combination of fear and impatience.
I took a few steps closer to her so that I could be sure she would see my face. "It's me, Chris," I answered
her. I saw a look of reassurance wash over her. I denied her the next question and asked her, "What are you
doing out here?"
"I might ask you the same thing," she replied.
It was time to let the powers I'd given myself to work their magic. I smiled coyly at her and said, "But I
asked you first."
She looked startled but obliged me. "I don't really know," she confessed. "I might be crazy, but I heard
this voice and it called me here."
I kept my smile locked in place. "You're not crazy," I assured her. "I've never known anyone more sane in
all my life." She still appeared uncertain. It was my desire for her to be both frightened and allured by
me. "You know, Colette, I heard what you told my sister today. I have to say that I’m flattered. I never
thought you saw me that way.”
“How did you…” she began before her voice trailed off. Then she had a look of sudden realization. I swore I
could hear her heartbeat getting faster. “It’s you. It was your voice.”
I smiled at her even more. “Yes, it was me,” I said. “I wanted you to come find me here.”
Now Colette looked worried. But she did not move an inch. Her rate of breathing increased. I just knew that
her heart was beating faster as the soft thumping I heard grew louder. “Wh-why?” was all she could manage to
say.
“Because,” I said. “Because deep down I know that you want to be here. Why else would you follow a voice to
such a place?” I used her own actions against her.
“Please,” she said. “Don’t hurt me.”
“I would never dream of such a thing,” I said. “But before we go any further, I must share something with
you.”
“What’s that?” she asked.
As quickly as I could snap my fingers I was behind her. To Colette I must have looked like I moved at the
speed of light. “This,” I said. I felt my fangs extend and I plunged them directly into her neck. I placed
my hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming. She did try to scream but only ever so briefly. She
struggled for a few seconds, more out of a natural reflexive action than actual resistance.
Her arms flailed about for a few seconds until her body essentially shut down. Her knees buckled and she
slowly fell to the ground. I never released hold of her, however. The feeling of her blood rushing into my
mouth was incredible. It occurred to me I had better be careful so I quickly wished that I could not kill her
by doing this. One of her arms slowly reached up and found my head. Instead of trying to fight me off, her
arm actually held my head in place. It was as if to say she wanted me to continue. She regained some control
over herself as words babbled out of her. All I could discern was, “Chris…why…don’t…stop…keep…up…Chris…
please.”
I decided I’d had enough and so I released her. I gently placed her on the ground. I looked at her quivering
body as she continued to mutter and babble. Her eyes were open and they continued to look straight ahead.
She was in a kind of trance. I licked at my fangs and my mouth to get every remaining drop of her blood. She
was mine now. It was time for the next step.
