~AN: In my hurry to introduce a new character in the same circumstances, I may have missed some "Bane"'s in the last couple
chapters. From this point forward, the story is new, not copy-pasted. Just to be clear, Jake is now an otter with the nickname Lutro.
Sorry for any confusion.~
"Lutro, you'll be my personal assistant," Ozzy said, surprising Jake. "Why don't you come with me and we'll discuss this in my office."
Jake followed the fully-anthro otter man down a hallway behind the bar. There were multiple doors on either side which were open to
reveal small rooms with beds, showers, and shelves full of sex toys. The single door at the very end of the hall was closed and read
"AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY". Ozzy unlocked the door and showed Jake into his office. The walls toward the other rooms were
covered with sound-absorbing material and a single window looked out on the dock where Jake had come in. Ozzy sat in a recliner on
one side of a coffee table and motioned for Jake to sit in the one across from him.
"I need someone to help me run Club Merah, since my employers usually have me away on work," he explained as Jake sat down.
"You'll be the floor manager to make sure that the other boys are doing their jobs and that the customers don't cause any trouble. You
will also be in charge of any money exchanges between the boys and customers and are responsible for substituting workers when they
are gone for a private session. It is a very important position."
Ozzy paused to allow Jake to absorb this. He stood up, went over to the window and stared outside at the dock.
"Dozens of boys arrive on that ferry every day. Few are acceptable for this line of work and I give this opportunity to maybe one in a
thousand. If you don't think you can handle it, you may be a dancer or waiter with the others. But, before you decide, I want to ask you
a question. Do you know why I chose you, Lutro?"
"Uh...because we're both otters?" Jake replied hesitantly, he didn't want to offend Ozzy by implying he was only interested in one
species, even if it was pretty obvious.
"Yes, but it's not necessarily your species. You see, this island has an amazing magical aura which brings out the hidden abilities of
those who visit it. The man who owns the island possesses great magical powers due to his living here for so long. Certain species are
indicative of higher magical abilities. For example, anyone who becomes a dragon has immense magic compared to, say, a rabbit.
Otters happen to be very high up on that chain, even outranking a few mythological creatures."
"...So, you're saying that I have powers?" Jake was thoroughly astounded.
"Not quite, but, Lutro, you do have a lot of potential. Your species doesn't determine how much power you have, but how much you are
able to have. An otter with no training is weaker than a mouse who has trained. By the way, mice are some of the least magic
creatures. However, since you are an otter, you would stand to benefit a lot from becoming my apprentice. If you do become my
apprentice, you can still leave during the week, but you must commit your weekends here."
"I don't know..."
"I understand it's a lot of information and responsibility, but let me say one thing more: having magic is a priceless skill. The more
powerful you become, the less you have to worry, the less you have to work, and the happier you will be. Not to mention that you can
be promoted by the island's management to a powerful position. And even if you leave the island, you maintain your control over what
you have learned. Yes, that's right, you can use the magic you learn outside of Pleasure Island. So, what do you say? Will you be my
assistant and apprentice?"
