Kat's friend Nate knocked on the door as he walked into the house. Kat and Nate had been friends since grade school and were the best of friends. In fact, Nate often thought of Kat as the sister he never had.
"Kat? You home? Hello..." asked Nate.
"Back here," replied Kat.
Nate walked to the living room in the back of the house to see Kat standing over a large German Shepard dog.
"Oh cool, you got a dog. Hiya boy," said Nate. Then Nate noticed the torn and shredded clothes around the dog. "Uh-oh, was he a bad boy."
"Yes, yes he was," replied Kat. She turned to Nate. "How are you? Ready to get your Party on?"
"Oh yeah, that I am."
At that moment, Kat's parent's arrived, carrying bags of groceries and a large birthday cake. They set them down and walked into the living room to see Kat, Nate and and the German Shepard that was Dan.
"Hey, you two, how's it going?" said Kat's dad. "Is this your Dog, Nate?"
"No...I...I thought it was your dog," replied Nate, suddenly confused.
"We don't have a dog." replied her Dad, who then noticed the torn clothing he immediately recognized as his son's. "Oh, Kat, you didn't..."
Kat smiled, she couldn't help it.
"Honey, can you come in here please?" called out Kat's Dad.
Kat's Mom walked into the room and looked down at the Dog, who looked up at her with sad eyes and let out a small whimper. She too immediately noticed the clothes and figured out what happened.
"Kat! How dare you! That is your brother! You turn him back this instant!" exclaimed Kat's Mother.
"That's your brother?" asked Nate, suddenly very confused and flustered. "But...how? I don't understand."
"Umm...Nate, why don't you come with me? Give Kat and Dan a little privacy."
Kat undid her spell and watched as the dog in front of her slowly turned back into her sixteen year old brother. Once his transformation finished, he just stared at her as he gathered up his clothes and walked back to his bedroom.
Kat walked into the kitchen where Nate and her Mother were talking. Nate looked up at her, still looking a bit stunned. He smiled encouragingly at her though.
"It's a lot to take in, isn't it?" she asked.
"Yeah," replied Nate. "But I'm okay with it. It's just a lot to get used to."
Kat's other best friend, Susan arrived. The three had been close friends for as long as they could remember. Kat had introduced Nate to Susan and the two had hit it off, making it a trifecta of good friends. The only thing was, Nate did not know that Susan was also a witch, along with Susan's Mom Catherine. In fact, Kat had met Susan because Catherine and Kat's Mom were such good friends.
"It's ok, he knows," replied Kat.
"Wait, she knew and you never told me?" exclaimed Nate.
"There's more. I'm a witch too," replied Susan.
"Really? Two of my best friends in the whole world and both are witches...this is so cool," replied Nate.
Everyone convened for dinner and then cake, sharing many laughs and jokes, except for Dan who was still mad Kat had turned him into a dog and was sitting at the end of the table, sulking.
After dinner, Kat, Susan and Nate walked out to the back deck, taking in the cool night air.
"So, Nate, what do you really think?" asked Kat.
"I was honest before when I said it was cool...I just still can't quite believe it," replied Nate.
"What would help you believe it?" asked Susan.
"I don't know...could...could you turn me into something? I always wondered what that would be like. Something cool though..."
The two girls looked at each other and smiled.
"Yeah, I think we can manage that," said Kat.
The two started whispering to each other about what they were going to turn him into. Finally, they broke and turned back to Nate.
"Ok, we've talked it over and decided, we're going to turn you into..."
