It's too much. You've already found this place, made love in this place and been transformed in this place. To be told that you can never change back is just too much for your mind to handle. You sit there stunned while Diane cuddles up to you. She takes your stillness to be acceptance at first, but notices your silence and tenseness. She looks at you.
"Are you alright, my dear?" she asks, seeming genuinely concerned.
"No." you say at last.
"You'll accept in time, dearest..." she begins but you interrupt, pushing her away.
"No." you say. She tries to hold on to you, but you leap out of the tree. You land ungracefully on your side but you're quick to stand up. You face her and start to back away. All the while saying "No" over and over again. She gracefully slides from the tree to the ground, trying to calm you down. You barely hear her until she yells very loud, snapping your attention to her.
"You must calm yourself!" She says once she has your attention. "You are trapped here now. Forever. Nothing can change that. You've been given a beautiful form. Accept it as a gift, not a punishment. You will love.." she puts her arms on your shoulders, but you push away.
"I won't!" you say and turn to run, you're not sure where to. You only get a few steps, however before you're stopped in your tracks. You tug at your feet, but find them literally rooted to the ground. Your heel and toes both pushing rapidly into the soil at your feet. You look down to see that your feet have become what looks like the base of a tree. You actually watch as more roots push into the ground and feel them digging into the earth while you're ankles cover with bark and thicken. You look up at Diane and see her hands and eyes. She answers your question before you even ask it.
"You left me no choice, you may have disturbed the others, or worse scared off newcomers." She says as the lights fade. You see that bark crawling rapidly up your legs, reaching your calves in a matter of seconds. As the bark covers your legs they thicken. As your legs touch each other they meld into one round tree trunk. The flowers in your hair fall out and the leaves get thicker. Soon your head is covered with not hair, but moist leaves.
"I'll calm down. I promise." you say to her.
"Yes, you will. Someday. But nothing will stop what is happening to you now." she says. A tickling sensation causes you to look at your hand, which is now growing leaves on them. You hands then move against their will, raising up above you and outstretched. Your fingers reach out, the skin giving way to bark and the fingers growing out into branches and splitting into other branches. Leaves spread out rapidly and your trunk has, by now, pushed up past your chest, and over your head. In less time then it took for you to turn into a nymph, you've turned into a tree. Your face, though is still pushed out for some reason. Diane approaches you.
"Soon I'll complete my spell. You won't be a tree forever. Just until you've forgotten your old life completely. Once the last memory of your old life fades you will emerge as our newest dryad." She says. You start to reply but she gestures with her left hand and your face sinks into your trunk.
You feel the breeze through your branches, your roots dug deep into the ground. You feel the nymphs sleeping in your branches sometimes, and birds making their home in you. Without much else your memories are difficult to let go of. As time passes, though, you do feel them slipping away. You're not sure if this is good or bad, but it is slowly happening regardless of what you do to stop it. Time passes.
