Looking at Jamie, an annoyed look on my face, I said, “What do you want?”
“I thought you might want to know a few things about being a genie.”
After a quick glance to Erin, I said, “Okay.”
Jamie spent the next 20 minutes talking; telling us things we’d already found out by reading the book. Looking
at the screen, Erin said, “Thanks, but we already knew that.”
“Oh.” Spotting the book on the bed, Jamie said, “I see you wished for the book.”
Getting annoyed, Erin said, “Is there anything else?”
“Yes, I wanted to say again that I’m sorry for what I did. But,” pausing, Jamie looked at me and said, “There
is a bright side to this; you’ll live forever and always be beautiful.”
“What about my family and friends? They’re not immortal!” bursting into tears, I said, “Eventually I’ll be all
alone.”
“I went through that too; but I moved on.” Seeing Erin’s face harden, Jamie said, “No offense.”
“Listen…Jamie, I realize you want to help. But,” pausing, Erin said, “We’re not in the mood to talk to you
right now.”
Before Jamie to speak, Erin clicked the disconnect button and closed her laptop.
“Why’d you do that?” Looking at Erin, surprised, I said, “Sounded like she was trying to help!”
“I’m not in the mood to talk with her, Carly.” Looking at me, Erin said, “You’re not the only one affected by
this.”
“You think I don’t know that?” walking to the computer, I said, “How do you think she feels? Everyone she’s
ever known has been dead for 750 years; if anything she needs our help!”
“I hadn’t thought of it like that.” Realizing I was right, Erin said, “Should we call her back?”
“I would.”
It was a few minutes before Jamie answered. Looking at Erin, annoyed, she said, “Oh, so now you want to talk?”
“I’m sorry, Jamie.” Pausing, Erin said, “I know you’re only trying to help.”
