Just as I was thinking of some way to stop everything, Maedel did it for me. She grabbed a sword from our
soldier that had been transformed and tossed it over to Arn. She then pulled two daggers out of her belt and
braced herself for combat.
"So, do those magic wards protect against iron?" She asked. Arn seemed to pick up on her idea and leveled her
sword at our mother. The look of horror on her face was enough of an answer for us. The king though, had other
plans.
"No, I suppose they don't. However, I have other ways to escape your little blades." He said, pointing his
wand at me, "After all, not all of you can fight me so easily."
Arn's eyes went wide with shock. She glared at the king and took a step forward.
"If you think for even a moment that you can hold my sister hostage and not die, I will gladly correct that
viewpoint." She said, flicking her sword in the king's direction.
"Oh really? Care to explain why you follow that witch then? She took your sister hostage long before I did."
The king said.
"Yes, but Sara appears to have emerged from that relatively untouched. I know now that Morgana intends to keep
it that way. I don't have that guarantee from you." Arn said as she took another step forward.
"Wait a second, that's Andrew? You sided against me?" My mother asked.
"You appear to have sided against us." Arn said, another step forward.
"Stop right there. I swear to God, if you take one more step forward, I will turn your sister to glass." The
king threatened.
"Glass?" Morgana asked. As I looked over to her, I realized something was off. Maedel was nowhere to be found.
"Yes glass. Why, does that frighten you?" The king asked, apparently oblivious to the fact that the wooden elf
was gone.
"Not even a little. Let me guess, that's the only spell you know how to do?" Morgana asked.
"That... that is a horrid lie." The king said. Even my mother shot him a dirty look over that terrible attempt
at lying.
"Wonderful, so now I just have to put a ward around Sara for one spell. For a second, I thought this would be
hard." Morgana said, snapping her fingers. A translucent pinkish purple orb appeared around me.
"You forget, I have steel as well as sorcery." The king said, unsheathing his sword. At that moment, Maedel
made herself visible again: right behind the king.
"You son of a bitch." She said, plunging a dagger into his back, "You think you can pull that shit? You think
you can threaten Sara, piss off her brother, nearly transform the only person capable of changing me back, and
then still win? I'm a ranger you bastard, I will hunt you down."
My mother showed she was just as cold as I remembered. She produced a knife from within her dress and stabbed
Maedel in the head.
"These elves are so dramatic. I think I'll have this one chopped into firewood." She said. Arn was livid now.
She charged at our mother impaling the bitch on her sword. She pulled the knife out of Maedel's head and
turned to the king.
"You have exactly ten seconds to drop your sword and wand and escape before I have Morgana turn every single
creature in the courtyard into a hound so I can hunt you like the vermin you are." She threatened. The king
sort of complied. He dropped his wand, but swung his sword at Arn as he made to escape. The sword went right
through my brother's leg, and that bastard king had a chance to run. Morgana fired off a shot at him, but it
bounced off his shields and hit one of our soldiers again. This time, he was merely knocked into the far wall.
I ran over to Maedel and Arn. Maedel appeared to be bleeding, or at least I thought that's what it was. It was
sap, but it was more liquid than what I had seen her produce before. Arn was also bleeding heavily. Morgana
walked over and knelt down next to me.
"You can heal them right?" I asked.
"Sara, what kind of second rate witch would I be if I couldn't fix this? Of course, it's just adding another
spell to the long list that have been used on Maedel, but I don't think she would object if she were able."
Morgana said as she placed her hands on the two elves. She muttered something and her hands glowed. Slowly, I
saw the incision in Maedel's head fill itself with a lighter colored wood, and Arn's leg seemed to return as
well. Strangely, it was also wooden.
"There. That should do it. Give them a few hours of rest and we'll be back in business." Morgana said.
"What business? Haven't we won?" I asked.
"Today. I have plans though. Oh yes, I have plans." Morgana said as she walked off. I wasn't entirely sure if
I wanted to know her plans or not, but at that moment, I was more concerned with making sure Maedel and Arn
were OK.
