Now the scholars know that all those folktales going about amongst the peasantry
nowadays ( lets say 1360AD )began about a century and a half earlier when some
Dutch bard named Zatikhoeven got the tale
of the Sovereignty of Eire and the heroes who tried to woo her when she was in dragon form
jumbled up in his romance.
In Zatikhoeven's version a princess named Elidia ,who used to make rather vulgar jokes
about the size of a man's "wand" made one foul remark too many and got
turned into a foul mouthed dragon as a result.
I suppose that taught Elidia some manners ( or not )
Anyways the Dragon confronting this foolish King just happened to be the Sovereignty of
both the East and West Kingdoms.
Normally she was a gentle looking blond haired maiden,perhaps looking like a 20 year old,but in actuality as old as you'd expect the
Spirit of the Land ( Lady Liberty,Britannia,et al ) to be.
And with all the trouble her nastier side had been coming out
in the form of those horns,reptillian eyes,fire breath,etc
If she got angrier,she'd be sprouting scales,getting bigger,going on all fours,etc
Not a good thing for all those mere mortals near her if she got really mad.
Now it just so happened that the Kings of the Kingdom that had
been before it split into the East and West Kingdom's had made their
union with the Lady of the Land by entering her cave,and hours later
coming out in a happy daze and holding the Staff of Power.
The Lady of the Land generally got a pregnancy out of the deal,and eventually a new hero.
Not surprisingly the practice had been discontinued long ago and forgotten about.
However the foolish King just happened to be holding a Staff of Power,what he thought
was a mere magical wand.
And the Dragon/Lady of the Land ,feeling her eminent transformation
into her nastier reptillian self,could tranfer her tf to a King holding a Staff of Power.
Using the human as a sort of heatsink to redirect the tf energies,if you will.
So when the foolish King made another insulting remark about this Dragon,
the Lady of the Land could fell the pressure in her face to push out into a snout,her horns
began to creak and lengthen and she went from 7 feet tall to 7 feet 1 inch tall.
So she rushed forward ,easily passed through his wards and seized the Staff of Power
in one taloned hand,bit down on his neck with her lengthening teeth,held her
other enlarging hand over the foolish Kings face
The Lady of the Land felt the dragonish change gush out of her own body and into his,and
when his face beganto push away into a small but growing snout.
Being of mortal flesh,the formerly human King didn't transform as readily as a divine beings meat would,
but the change was drastic enough.
Where the foolish King used to be now squated a female creture about the size
of a baby elephant,with a long neck,the beginnings of spikes down its lengthy backbone.a pair of budding wings,lots of pink hide and a head that looked roughly like a horse with sharp teeth.
Around this emerging dragoness that used to be the foolish King lay the torn split garments from her former Kinghood.
The Lady of the Land was her normal sweet damsel self again,and as she held the Staff
of Power she had taken back,she addressed the stunned new dragon thing.
She now carried within herself the same transformational headache the Lady of the Land and her
kind carried> get mad and you turn into a dragon
And since dragons naturally get angry,the reverse transformation wasn't too easy.
Then the Dragon/Lady of the Land waved the Staff of Power and vanished.
