Instead of trying to open either the red door or the green door and escape from the dog charging toward you, you make your stand and wait for it to come to you. And that’s when you notice that the dog coming toward you isn’t acting aggressively toward you for being in its territory. Its actually coming to greet you with its tail wagging up in the air from side to side while greeting you with a happy canine smile. Your sudden spurt of fear brought on by the dog’s sudden appearance fades away as you smile at the dog in return. The dog stops in front of you and then play bows. You chuckle and then squat down before the dog. You offer it your hand to show how friendly you are. The dog sniffs your hand and then licks it. It curls its wet tongue around and across each finger before caressing you gently on the palm of your hand. With your other hand, you reach across the space between you and the dog and give it a friendly scratch behind one of its shaggy, docked ears. The dog stops licking your other hand and pants contentedly. And it wags its tail happily from the affection that you are giving it. You move your hand down the side of its shaggy head and gently feel around for its collar. And just as you are about to touch the space where you think its collar could be amidst all of that shaggy fur, the dog crosses the distance between you and it. You have only a single moment to express your surprise at this dog’s friendliness before it gives your face a tongue bath.
You stop scratching the dog’s shaggy neck for signs of its dog collar and tags, and just let your entire body relax as the dog affectionately licks your face. Its cool, damp and padded black nose and whiskers tickle your face and contrast nicely with the warm, wet tongue it plays across your nose, mouth and both cheeks . The dog stops briefly at each of your cheeks and sniffs the air around your ears. And then its back to licking your face and wagging its tail. You sigh with pleasure and breath in its warm, fetid doggy breath. Its breath flows into your lungs and then rolls itself through your body. Your senses of touch, smell and hearing begin to come alive for you as the dog contentedly finishes giving you a licking. It steps back from you and sits on its shaggy haunches to look at you as you squat before it. The only sounds that can be heard in this hallway are the dog’s contented panting and your quickening breath. And then...
