"Now that I've explained everything, what will you choose?"
Doctor Laura asked as she pulled a stack of paperwork out of a desk drawer for Daniel to fill out. Daniel's eyes widened a bit when he saw the pile.
"You just sit here and fill these out, take as much time as you need." The Doctor gestured to the wall opposite the door they had come in. "When you are done, simply walk through the green door over there. We'll handle the rest."
Daniel was beginning to have second thoughts as he studied the paperwork, but Doctor Laura had already left. He spun his head around to the door where they had entered. If the door was still there, it blended perfectly into the wall. The only way out now seemed to be the green door.
Daniel's heart began to race. His eyes darted over the forms; contracts and legal terms were peppered throughout. One was a consent form, another detailed various risks and guarantees. He couldn't make sense of the next two; they seemed to read like stereo instructions. Daniel rather foolishly skimmed and signed them all, only vaguely understanding the bulk of it. He wished Doctor Laura hadn't left in such a hurry.
Maybe she had left on purpose...
After about an hour, an exhausted and nervous Daniel finally reached the last page. Aha, he thought, the most important page. It detailed the transformation he would soon undergo, but to his dismay it was arranged in a very confusing manner.
There were animal options, food options, and seeming contradictions, even within the same category. "Preference of primary aspect to supersede current physical paradigm. Select up to three." Daniel did the best he could. "Duration of transformation relative to self perception of time in relation to GMT time real world." Daniel filled in one month. He thought. "Secondary aspect conducive to the linear self realization"... there were a lot of check boxes...
Daniel had decided to turn himself into a "sweet but shy girl who loves animals" for one month. He figured it would be an interesting change in perspective for him, but looking at the form... it was riddled with erase marks, and was rather sloppy. He figured it would have to do, at this point. A thorough search through the drawers had yielded no replacement forms.
Daniel gathered his courage, left the paper on the desk, and walked through the green door into the next room.
The door slammed shut behind him. There was no turning back now.
The floor and walls of the transformation chamber were stark white. A blue circle was outlined on the floor and on the black ceiling directly above. It was well lit, but Daniel could not see how, as he approached the blue circle. He reached the middle of the room, and humming sound grew loud in his ears. Daniel tried to take a step, but could not. Something had zapped him with an unknown force. He knew his transformation was beginning, but would it turn out right?
