Jen was flabbergasted; never in her wildest dreams did she think that something like this could happen. She read it multiple times still in shock. Her heart was racing and she couldn’t help but smile. Trying to keep a level head she read the article once more:
Aquarium Owner Howard Nichols found dead en route to car last night, famous for owning the world’s only mermaid in his facilities. His death comes as great controversy has befallen the aquarium about the ethical treatment of some of the Aquatic life such as with the new tiger sharks exhibit; there is high speculation that they have neglected to feed them until they were in a high state of starvation under Nichols’s orders then feed Bi-weekly in the show “Feeding Frenzy” where they would put in live tuna in the tank to be swiftly devoured by the sharks.
Other controversy lies with the “Young Maiden of the Sea” exhibit with Jenifer the mermaid. Almost nothing is known about her as her parents and doctors signed a privacy agreement with the owner who deemed it a sensitive topic for Jenifer. But what is known is she was human turned mermaid the controversy has risen was when human rights groups and animal rights groups were denied comment and access to examine Jens accommodations. protesters have begun protesting the treatment of Jen and the shady attitude of Nichols.
Nichols leaves behind his 2 dogs and a downtrodden girlfriend Molly Olson. And a five acre estate. More on the story on page B28.
She was so happy after re-reading it that she quickly did a few laps around her tank. This was the best news she had heard in a long time, she finally felt free of something that had been eating away at her for weeks. It was like a monster has been slain and she could feel joy once again.
