“I have always been here.” A male voice answers from across the fire pit.
Becky really confused now looks from the wolf over to a man on the other side of the tent. She looks back to the wolf to find the animal is watching her with keen interest.
“The canine spirit is pleased with you James.” The shaman intones while watching the flames dance about the fire pit. “You have brought two new ones to her pack, one of which will soon give birth.”
“It is my pleasure to serve. Will the spirit speak to me?” The musher known as James asks casting a look over at Becky wondering why she is staring so intently at a sled dog before his attention goes back to the shaman. “You know why I have come of course?” He asks while slowly petting Bryan who lays on the ground calmly at the feet of his master gloating a bit that he was the only dog allowed into the tent.
The wolf gives a yawn showing the watching Becky rows of razor sharp fangs then leans close to sniff the human female. At this Becky lifts her chin exposing her throat to the lupine muzzle for reasons of pure instinct her human mind could not understand.
The old man smiles slightly at the words of the musher even as he watches the two dogs in the room. As Becky wearing a human form does not fool him. She is a bitch and will always be canine on two feet or four. The scent gives her away the shaman decides silently musing to himself. “Spirit is always here.”
Moving from Becky the she wolf calmly moves from the shadow to the light. Bryan perks his ears and looks to the new she husky at once finding her of keen interest knowing this to not be one of his team mates. James looks upon the bitch husky and finds himself remembering the time long ago when he became one of her followers when he stumbled into a wolf den seeking protection from a blizzard.
The place changes, what was once a tent is now a den warm and hidden for protection of the young. The she wolf teats heavy with her milk smiles at her puppies then stands waiting. “Come to your mother.” Her voice tells them and yet it’s a voice that is heard with the mind more then the ear.
Where was once was two humans and two dogs now stand four puppies.
