Alexander Schoolcraft was asleep in his nice warm bed when he heard the crash and noise outside. It was 2 AM in the morning and he did not want to get out of bed or even be up but the noise had been loud enough to startle him. Alexander otherwise known as Alex had rented a cabin in Otter falls to get away form his crappy life. It seemed as if things just kept getting worse. A new boss at work had made his life a living hell of continues and seemingly pointless bureaucratic drivel. Alex was sure the sadist enjoyed foisting on him. Then he had to take a pay cut or be fired by the basterd. Then one day he had come home to find divorce papers form his wife who it turned out for the past three years had been cheating on him with a guy named Ralph.
The divorce proceedings had so far been bitter and harsh Alex had never even realized his wife had been cheating on him. Now she was claiming all sorts of things and it looked to Alex as if she would be taking the nest egg he had been saving for years for their future. It was a bitter fact that his wife, Jean, had spent all the money she got form her job on herself while Alex had to support them both really with the necessities and bills and now she was taking what else he had worked for.
Not that eh could prove ay of this Jena had made sure that her story was the one the courts would hear and there was not much he could do about it. Maybe he reflected before coming out here on this trip that maybe he had driven her away. He could be distant sometimes and he did work long hours to support them.
He was here on the bill of his good friend Norman Hooks who was not only his best friend but his lawyer as well. Norm was working hard to keep Alex afloat and get him something out of this divorce. Meanwhile his boss had become even worse persecuting him constantly and making trouble for the proceedings by not allowing him to go when he needed to. In short, Alex was a ball of nerves and stress when eh had arrived a day ago in Otter Falls.
Norman had paid for this cabin and set everything up even had convinced his boss; Alex had no idea how, to let him off. Norman had stated quiet simply that it would be worse for an over stressed ball of nerves to appear in court and make already shaky ground worse. So a cabin was rented free of charge for Alex to get him out of the stress pot his life had become.
Alex had to admit the guy was right the past Day had been wonderful he had unplugged the phone he had stretched back he had relaxed. Alex had even gotten a chance to hike a favorite past time for him. It would be hell going back to Odessa in a week but he did not want to think about that now.
His mind would remain clear. Norman had even set up some time to come down the next day and go fishing further up the river and have a nice Guy Day with no discussion of Alex’s life. He needed this.
Which was why Alex woke up so easily and so angrily when the crash occurred it had been loud and raucous and had come from outside his window? It sounded like that damn wildlife proof metal trashcan was being broken into.
“Wildlife proof my foot,” mumbled Alex sleepily getting out of bed. He might, as well check on this it could be serious. Hell, he might have to call animal control. He felt another headache coming on. He wanted to stay in bed. Maybe he could ignore it. The good, noble, part of his brain argued that despite the wish for sleep he must go check on such things as it could only get worse if he did not.
