Visiting the Library to Study

added by Sorceress Toy 20 years ago O

There was a library not too far away. Grinning smuggly, I began walking towards the library. My mind was abuzz with possibilities. Could things become invisible, be shrunk, changed into other things? Could the same be done to people? I really didn't know yet.

I made a few minor wishes as I walked down the sidewalk. A woman's dress lengthened from her knees to her ankles. For another wish, I changed a red blouse to blue. The recipients of these wishes did not notice the changes when I was around. I had no idea if the alterations could be felt or not. I discovered that mentally thinking the wish was sufficient for the wish to be granted. As I approached the library, I made a note to be careful what I think, particularly when the word wish entered my mind.

I walked up the steps and went through the enormous doors into the large opening. Looking up I saw three floors to explore. To my right was the help desk. A woman in her mid-20s with blonde, shoulder-length hair was there. I thought that perhaps the library would have a book on antiquities and perhaps I could find the ring in it.

I turned and went to desk. As I got closer to the desk, the librarian was become more and more attractive. Her pert smile, her blue eyes, and lovely smile were alluring. She smiled when she looked at me. That sent a tingle through me and almost quickened my step.

"Hi," I said to her. "I'm looking for a book on antique rings," I said looking into her eyes. Her name tag said 'Amanda.'

"Hmmm... Let me look," Amanda replied. She turned to the keyboard and typed in a few words. I watched her and become somewhat enamoured with her. "I'm sorry, we don't have anything specifically for rings."

"I wish the library did," I said in disappointment.

"Oh, hang on. The computer must have locked up. Odd, there is something. It's on the third floor in section E," she read from the screen.

"You're kidding!" I said with some excitement.

She knodded. "If you want, I could take you to it," she offered.

"If you have the time," I replied.

"Yeah, I do. Let me write down the number," she said. Picking up a pencil she jotted down the call number and went around to the door to the help desk. I joined her and we walked up the steps. I asked a few questions about how long she had worked there and why. She introduced herself as Amanda Landry. She had graduated a few years ago from college and this was one of the best libraries in the country. She really enjoyed working there.

We strolled up the steps to the third floor and went into the book stacks. She knew exactly where she was going. She went to the stacks, pulled out a fairly thick book that I took from her due to its weight. "There is a table and chair a few rows over. Let me show you," she offered.

"Okay."

"So, why the interest in that book?" she asked.

"Well, I'd like to know a little more about this ring," I said, indicating the one on my finger.

"Why, is it a family heirloom?" she wondered.

"No, I got it today from an elderly woman I don't know. She had me put it on my finger and wish for it to never leave."

"Odd, what's special about it?" she asked.

I paused and looked around to see if we were alone. She looked with me. I leaned towards her and whispered, "It grants wishes."

She smiled and giggled slightly. "It grants wishes," she scoffed.

"Yes. It does."

"Whatever, I had better get back to work." She was thinking I was a nut.

"No, seriously, let me show you," I offered.

She rolled her eyes. "Right," she said. "Make a wish and show me," she said with unbelief and a huff.

Knowing I had to prove it to her, I pondered what to wish for a few seconds. I didn't want to surprise or scare her. She would attract as much attention as the woman on the street earlier. I frowned.
