"I wish there was a book about this ring in front of me," I whispered.
Instantly a thin pamphlet, perhaps 10 pages thick, appeared on the wooden desk in front of me. The book had a simple title, "The Ring User Guide." I opened the book up and found that the ring could do just about anything I wanted. It urged caution using it as nearly anything could be affected by it. God and His Son, Jesus Christ, could overcome it and using it wrongly would eventually go punished. I gulped at that.
The pamphlet described ways to make wishes, either mentally or verbally. Contact with the ring was essential. The wishes were permanent. Time limitations could be put on the ring. Time travel was possible, but the past could not be altered. A time traveller essential was an observer and could not interact with anyone. It sounded like you were there in the past, but not physically.
There were several warning that using the ring would go the owners head and get the best of him or her. Then there was a list of those who had possessed the ring. The old lady, Mrs. McConnley had had it for 60 years. Why she didn't make herself younger, I didn't know.
I looked at the ring and pondered what all it could do. The book said it can turn the owner into anything he desired, whether inanimate or not. The ring would be integrated into his form and the ring preserved consciousness no matter what happened. So, if I became a statue, I could still communicate with the ring and undo it. That was not the case with others made inanimate by it, though. They became whatever was requested with no knowledge of the change. Consciousness could be maintained if desired, though. It was restored with being made normal.
