I mentally wished that the 30 minutes had gone by. A rush of wind was heard in my ears. I looked up to see the clock approaching 3:58. 'Oh my!' I thought to myself. I just fast-forwarded myself 30 minutes. My watch still read 3:26, though. That was odd. I rose from the table and made sure Amanda and I had not left anything out of place.
With the limited time I had, I quickly went down the three flights of stairs and to the desk. Amanda saw me reach the bottom of the stairs and smiled. She watched me approach.
"Got anything to check out?" she asked me.
"Ahhh, no," I said, thinking I had disappointed by not grabbing a book.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Nothing," I answered.
"Alright. I'm done here," she replied.
She left through the back exit from the help desk and guided me into stacks on the first floor. In a secluded corner she turned to me and gave me a kiss.
"Wow," I said as my heart quickened. "That was a pleasant surprise."
"The last 30 minutes have been hard to work," she commented.
"Mine went by in a few seconds," I replied.
"What?"
"I wished myself ahead 30 minutes by accident."
She laughed. "Silly! You need to be careful with your wishes."
"I know. But it brought me to you faster," I confided.
"I have a request," she said, changing the subject.
Amanda had taken me into a fairly secluded area on the first floor. "Joe, I want you to check me out?"
"Check you out?" I said, looking her eyes. I backed away and took a good look at her.
"No, check me out, as a book. I want to be a library book."
"Amanda?"
"I'm a librarian. Please!"
I shook my head. I looked around, making sure no one was nearby. "You're silly. Got a book in mind?"
Amanda pulled out a book from the stack. "How about this, "Butterflies - Nature's Wonder"?"
