Midnight had decided to call Sally to tell hir, shi was in Cairo., When shi did, shi got an earful. "I know mom. But I was the only one not pregnant so I had no choice. No I won't mess up. I'll be careful, I promise. Yes, I'll report in every day on what I found."
Shi hung up finding that they plan to stay in Sidney and find a way to help, once done they'd be on their way.
Just then Midnight looked at hir friend. "W... w... would their be an issue if I go see the sphinx? We won't be investigating until tomorrow and..."
"Hun, I don't mind, but do be careful. Sally would skin me alive should something happen to you."
Midnight giggled. "I'll be fine. I survived Paris." Shi giggled heading out the door.
---------
After trecking through the dessert for an hour shi arrived. Shi smiled having an assignment to write a report on the sphinx shi decided to take advantage. Shi took out a pin and notes. As shi wrote shi noted the size, shape and condition of it.
At noon Midnight had caught something in hir eye and proceded to follow. It had led hir right into the depths of the sphinx. As shi walked shi took notes, but not once loosing sight of who shi was tailing
Just as shi thought it continue on hir face was staring at what looked to be a statue at first glance. As Midnight looked, no sign of who shi was pursuing, the statue looked like a chakat, only with wings.
As shi examined the statue a voice rang, speaking in Egyptian. Ancient Egyptian that is, making Midnight jump. "Woah. You scared me."
"Only one colour, but not one size,
Stuck at the bottom, yet easily flies,
Pressent in sun, but not in rain,
Doing no harm and feeling no pain."
Midnight looked and thought. "A riddle. Well, I guess now your appearance makes since." Shi walked back and forth then stopped, looking down. "A shadow." Shi said. "The answer is a shadow. It is black no matter what or who it belongs to, it has no definate size, it's stuck at the bottom, meaning the feet, yet it can move as fast as you. It can only appear where there's light. In rain you can's see it, just your reflection and it does no harm, nor does it feel no pain."
"Very clever mortal." The feline said. "Are you here for my blood like the ancient pharoahs were?"
"No, I am not. I am just stud..... Wait... mortal?" Shi asked. "You mean you're immortal?"
"I am. I am thee Sphinx. Talia is what my friends called me, but they're long gone."
"Well, Talia, rest assured, I have not come for your blood." Shi sat on hir hunches and scrached hir side. "But why would anyone want your blood?"
"To create more like me, like you. So as to make him immortal. So King Tut could live forever. He was buried with my blood and from what I've heard humans found him. And claimed my blood."
Shi looked. "Would the blood perhaps have side effects like massive levels of lust and a vicious streak a mile wide?"
Talia nodded. "Yes... why?"
"Well, just say someone is using it." Midnight looked. "And we're trying to find who so we can stop him or her."
Talia looked over. "I see." Shi walked over and sat by Midnight, purring.
Midnight jumped back. "Sorry. I..."
Talia giggled. "It's alright." Shi looked and as Talia was stretching, Midnight confirmed that Talia was a shi. "So you're a Sphinxkat?"
"No. I'm a sphinx. And before you ask, yes I was born herm so to ensure there would be a pharoah or a queen of egypt."
Midnight looked. "Talia, would you like to help us?"
Talia smiled. "I would dear."
Midnight and Talia had made their way back towards the hotel. "First we got to vaccinate everyone in Cairo. Then we track down this guy."
As soon as shi got back, the Sphinx having taken a liking to Midnight, though Midnight was young.
Midnight grabbed the phone and called Sally. "Mom, can I talk with aunt snowy," shi said growling a bit.
Midnight then put it on speaker. "Snowy, where exactly did you get the base element for the virus?"
"Well, midnight, dear, it was sold on the black market. Why?" Snowy asked.
"Well, I think I may've found the lifespan of us kats." Shi looked. "I'm sitting in my room, with the legendary Sphinx. The first true chakat."
Snowy went silent causing Midnight to worry. "Aunt Snowy?"
"I'm here. You just shocked me." Hir voice rang out.
"Aunt Snowy, the base element is hir blood." Midnight said.
"Oh dear. Alright, don't do anything, we'll be there soon." Snowy hung up....
"Well looks like we'll get to figure more out soon. Perhaps... wait, I know who possibly is doing this..." Shi looked up. "He sold your blood to my aunt, not knowing what it was." Shi jumped up and down. "Now we can connect the last dots."
